Whether you're expecting, currently on leave, planning ahead or wanting to support your teammates, navigating parental leave comes with a lot of new challenges.
Technical careers require us to stay up to date and living in Germany adds another layer of bureaucratic hurdles to the mix.
To help you feel more prepared, we have selected panelists who've been through it and will share their experiences openly: what worked, what surprised them, and what they wish they'd known.
We'll cover the practical and bureaucratic side, the career side, and we'll reserve time for your questions.

Are you tired of insecure bros who only want to show off their skills? **Then [Lousy & Lazy Football](https://www.instagram.com/landlsc/) is the right thing for you!**
We are a group of friendly people who just want to have a relaxed kick. All genders, ages (+18) and nationalities welcome. **Feel free to join the waitlist even if it seems long - sometimes we make the event larger and play on two pitches (24 players, four teams) or even three pitches (36 players, six teams), depending on demand.**

4. **Donât dribble past multiple players (trying to take on a player is fine but at no point should you be trying to dribble past multiple players).**
5. **Donât close down the defenders too quickly. Give the team a chance to play the ball out.**

7. **Be a teamplayer**

WTM Berlin x SPICED Academy: AI and Building a Tech career in Berlin
Women Techmakers Berlin and SPICED Academy are joining forces to host an evening focused on both building *efficient AI systems* and navigating the real challenges of building a *career in tech*âbeyond just learning technical skills.
## Talks
Talk 1: Confidence Beyond Skills - What Really Holds Women Back in Tech Careers - by Marina Matveevskaia
Many women in tech keep investing in new courses, skills, and certifications, yet still feel stuck or ânot ready enoughâ to take the next career step.
In this talk, we will look beyond technical competence and explore the less visible factors that often shape career growth much more strongly â such as self-trust, fear of visibility, internalized expectations, and the emotional impact of burnout or layoffs.
I will share common patterns I see in highly capable women and why âjust improving skillsâ is often not the real barrier.
Participants will leave with new perspectives and simple reflection tools to better understand what is holding them back and how to move forward in a more sustainable and aligned way.
Talk 2: Efficient Agentic Systems - by Jane Waithira
Let Classical ML Do the Heavy Lifting, Let Agents Do the Thinking
Thereâs a temptation to throw an LLM at every problemâbut the most effective systems take a different approach.
This talk explores how to combine deterministic, classical machine learning for predictable tasks with LLM-powered agents for reasoning and decision-makingâso you can build systems that are fast, cost-effective, and reliable.
## Speakers
**Jane Waithira:**
Jane Waithira is an innovative, solution-oriented developer working in AI/ML, currently at SAP in Germany, where she integrates applied AI and GenAI for SAP's own cloud infrastructure. With over five years of experience building production AI systems, Jane has established her skillset in practical applications of ML and GenAI.
Her talk will provide attendees with a practical framework for building efficient agentic systems that combine deterministic classical ML with the flexibility of LLM-powered agents.

**Marina Matveevskaia:**
Marina Matveevskaia is a Professional Identity and Transition Coach working primarily with women in tech and international professionals in Germany. With over 14 years of experience in the IT industry, including leadership roles, she understands the unique pressures and challenges women face in fast-paced, male-dominated environments.
In her coaching practice, Marina focuses on burnout prevention, impostor syndrome, and career transitions, helping highly capable women build sustainable and fulfilling career paths. She also collaborates with the German Employment Agency (Arbeitsagentur) as an AVGS coach, supporting women in their return to the labour market.

Co-Working Session (Deep Work, all types of work welcome)
Hello! Iâm organising a coworking + socialising session for all of us who are working on projects (e.g. our own creations, freelance or remote work) but don't feel like sitting alone at home. đ
To ensure that we have time for both socialising AND working, we will be using the so-called âPomodoroâ technique:
**50 mins deep work** (silent), followed by **10 mins break** to socialise. And then repeat!
You are welcome to join whatever your personal background is, and whatever project you are working on.
I (the host) speak English and German, so either language is fine.
ââââââââââââââââââ-
AGENDA:
* **Short Intro**
Tell us who you are and share something about what you will be working on today
* **Pomodoro Session** \- 3x \(3h\)
Each Pomodoro session consists of 50 mins focused âdeep workâ (no talking, no interruptions, **phones on silent mode**)
-> then 10 mins break: a chance to share your progress with others
-> Repeat
* **15 mins Wrap Up**
Celebrate what you achieved and get to know others đ
ââââ
The location is **Espresso House near Checkpoint Charlie** (they have multiple outlets - so be sure to go to the correct one!)
Wifi + power plugs are available - but best to bring a fully charged laptop, just in case đ
You **do not** have to pay anything. But since we are using the cafĂŠ space, it is common courtesy to buy at least one drink (coffee costs roughly **4 Euros**).
Design Your Own Crystal Scented Candle 26.05
Create the candle of your dreams in this premium scented candle workshop in Berlin, where creativity, sustainability, and craftsmanship come together. Hosted inside the Galleria Lucia Atelier, this immersive experience takes place in a historic artist building - a former factory now home to painters, designers, and makers. It's not a showroom or an office, but a real working candle atelier where so many candles come to life.
During the workshop, you'll design a fully customized scented candle from start to finish. Choose your candle jar color, painted with sustainable, dishwasher-safe paints and designed to last up to 500 washes. Once your candle is finished, the glass can be reused as a drinking glass - making it both beautiful and responsible.
Select from a curated range of premium fragrance oils, choose wax colors, finishes, and add natural crystals for a truly personal touch. You'll also create your own custom label, making each candle a one-of-a-kind piece.
While you create, enjoy complimentary refreshments and learn expert tips on how to choose sustainable candles in the future and care for your candles so they burn cleaner and last longer.
Surrounded by hundreds of candles and the authentic atmosphere of a Berlin candle atelier, this workshop offers a rare behind-the-scenes look into small-scale candle making - creative, intimate, and unforgettable.

Pitch & Feedback for founders & freelancers
**Join Pitch & Feedback, a focused session designed for builders who want real, actionable input on their ideas.**
This event brings together founders, freelancers, and curious minds in a structured format where selected participants present their ideas and receive direct feedback from the group. Whether you're refining an MVP (Minimum valuable product or service), validating a concept, or preparing to launch, this is a space to test your thinking with others who are building as well.
How it works:
* 6â8 selected presenters
* Each gets 5 minutes to pitch + 10 minutes of structured feedback
* Audience members contribute insights, questions, and suggestions
Who should attend:
* Presenters: founders, freelancers, or anyone working on an idea who wants honest feedback
* Viewers: people interested in startups, product thinking, or networking with builders
What you get:
* Direct, constructive feedback on ideas
* Exposure to different projects and perspectives
* Opportunities to connect with potential co-founders, collaborators, or early supporters
We will film the pitches and share the recordings with presenters (optional, only if they agree).

Free Workshop: Hacking Business Models in the Cultural Sector
Letâs be honest: the traditional cultural sector often forces us to choose between our creative integrity and our financial survival. The myth of the "starving artist" or the "solitary genius" is a trap that keeps cultural workers in a constant state of precarity.
But what if we could design our projects differently? What if we could build cultural businesses based on solidarity, cooperation, and radical sustainability?
Join us on May 27th for an interactive, hands-on workshop co-hosted by ODBK and Travelling U. We will explore how to dismantle extractivist practices and design alternative business models that actually serve the creators.
**What you will learn in this session:**
* Beyond the Canvas: How to view system design and business models as part of your artistic medium.
* Alternative Frameworks: An introduction to cooperative structures and the solidarity economy.
* Redefining Value: How to measure the success of your cultural project using metrics of care, rather than just capitalist extraction.
* Real-World Pathways: Tangible examples of cultural workers who have successfully subverted the system to gain economic sovereignty.
**Who is this for?**
Artists, cultural managers, creative freelancers, and social entrepreneurs in Berlin who are tired of the traditional hustle culture and want to explore sustainable, collective ways to structure their work.
**About the Facilitator:**
Oihane Amurrio is an artist, educator, and cultural entrepreneur based in Berlin. She specialises in designing alternative pedagogical models in the cultural sector and is the lead designer of the *Cooperative Cultural Entrepreneurship (CCE)* program at Travelling U.
