Art X Fashion @ The Museum at FIT
Admission to the museum is free.
This exhibition will be on display from February 19 until April 19, 2026. If you cannot attend the opening, please stop in and see the show at your convenience. Call ahead for hours.
This exhibition is a comprehensive exploration of the symbiotic relationship between the world of fashion and fine art. Featuring more than 140 objects, including garments, accessories, textiles, photographs, and original artworks drawn from MFIT's permanent collection, *Art X Fashion* challenges the traditional hierarchies of visual culture, presenting fashion and art each as parallel, potent expressions of social, intellectual, and creative forces. Curated by Dr. Elizabeth Way, curator of costume and accessories at MFIT, the exhibition reflects MFIT's mission to advance the understanding and appreciation of fashion's critical role in culture.
The core of *Art X Fashion* lies in its profound engagement with the eternal question: "Is fashion art?" The exhibition explores the ways that fashion has always been a partner, not a follower, of fine art, highlighting typically overlooked integrations throughout history. This includes examples of how the two disciplines have worked together to create European styles, from the drama of Rococo and Neoclassical grandeur to the unsettling world of Surrealism, to the shock of Pop Art and postmodernism.

Food For Thought (F4T)
Food For Thought (F4T) is a friendly weekend brunch for people who enjoy discussing serious and "serious" topics with other smart, engaging people. We welcome everyone, whether you are a card-carrying philosopher or are maybe not quite sure who Plato was. The only qualification you need is that you enjoy thinking and eating and can do both at the same time! The F4T Brunch meets on the second and fourth Sunday of each month. We will have a new suggested topic each month, though wandering off topic is also allowed! (Good luck trying to stop that from happening.) These will span Science, Philosophy, Politics, History, Economics, and more. Attendees will be invited to propose the topic for the next brunch.
We are a friendly group but we must restrict attendance to 12 members so we can all participate in a common conversation. And if you sign up, we expect you to show up! Two no-shows and you will be blocked from attending.
To keep up-to-date on CFI-NYC events you should sign up for our monthly newsletter. Go to https://cfi-nyc.org/ and at the lower right click on Receive E-Mails.
Topic for each event to be announced in the Comments section below...

Of Grammatology (week 2)
Join us for weekly discussions of Jacques Derrida's 1967 deconstruction of the speech/writing binary in western philosophy, *Of Grammatology*.
**Required reading for this meeting: ch. 2 Linguistics and Grammatology (pg. 29) up to The Hinge _[La Brisure_] (pg. 71)**
(Note: weâre meeting at 2pm this week instead of our usual 1pm)
Most of us are reading the [2016 edition of the book](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DbDLEE6P5JsS9hkTAR-vGfG6E-Wh9BGn/view?usp=sharing). We plan to meet weekly and work our way through the whole book about 30â40 pages at a time.
We'll be meeting at Art Cafe + Bar in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn.
This event is free but we're all still socially obligated to purchase something, and Art Cafe is a cool place that we should support! They have a bar and they serve coffee and tea among other non-alcoholic drinks, as well as food.

1. GROUP PROMOTION: Each group may bring flyers or posters advertising membership, donations, and meetings.

4. ARGUMENTS: Listen to each otherâs opinion completely in good faith. Ask questions about other's points instead of immediately dismissing. Approach taboo subjects--such as sex, religion, and politics--with strangers cautiously; back out if getting heated. Agree to disagree and walk away if necessary.

8. CONFIDENTIALITY: Meetings are private despite being open to the public. Recordings are prohibited. You may share what you learned, but not direct quotes and identities.
9. MEETING MODERATION: The organizers, hosts, co-hosts, moderators, and discussion leaders will use various methods available to ensure compliance with the rules and maintain decorum.
Attending any meeting or event implies agreement with the above rules.

Play & Date (*New Kind Of Speed Dating Event)
**\*TO ATTEND GET TICKETS AT -** [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/play-date-new-kind-of-speed-dating-sold-out-for-men-tickets-1982011580993](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/play-date-new-kind-of-speed-dating-sold-out-for-men-tickets-1982011580993)
(\*Our last one sold out quickly, especially for men, so get your ticket ASAP.)
Come check out this unique twist on speed dating. Join us for a unique social event for singles in NYC (20s, 30s, 40s)! Make new social connections, win raffle prizes and meet other fun singles!
**HOW IT WORKS:**
Our friendly host will welcome everyone and then you'll be grouped off into separate tables where you'll get to meet, chat with and play fun social games with other singles in small groups of about 4 or 5 people. Then, similar to traditional speed dating, you'll rotate from table to table getting a chance to meet all the other singles in attendance. You'll be handed a "match sheet" and at the end of the event you'll be able to indicate people you'd like to talk to again in the future. If they also choose you, our host will send you each others' contact information within about 24 hours after the event and you can feel free to set up a date with them.
Let's face it, we're all tired of swiping over and over again on people who may or may not look like or be like the person they're portraying on the apps. A Play & Date speed dating event is a much better way to meet someone because you actually get to meet singles in person and really get to know them.
This is entirely new and revolutionary type of speed dating event! We love the idea of traditional speed dating but sometimes it's hard to come up with things to talk about. That's why at a Play & Date speed dating event you'll have fun, easy games to play to get to know everyone instead of dealing with the usual dating "job interview" type questions. We find that it's a much better way to get to know someone!
**WIN PRIZES:**
You'll enjoy an evening of meeting new people, fun social interactions and games... No skill necessary, just a bit of luck! Our friendly host will be orchestrating the event and making introductions among the group. You'll participate in several games during the evening while getting a chance to interact with all members of the opposite sex. Win a game, get a raffle ticket for chances to win prizes!
**WHY IT WORKS:**
Through the years we've organized many speed dating events. We had a host that would sometimes invite the guests to stay around if they wanted to after the event to play some games. She would bring some fun interactive games and casino type games of chance/luck with her. We noticed something fascinating start to happen! More people would make connections at the games after the event than at the actual speed dating! That led us to creating this event. It's the perfect way to meet people in this busy city!
**WHAT GAMES WILL WE BE PLAYING:**
They are simple but extremely fun games that don't require much skill... they are mostly fun games of luck and chance to get the crowd mingling and having a good time. The fun games are set up to break the ice, help you gauge compatibility and make quality connections. Some of the games are similar to the most popular party games, others are like casino games that involve rolling dice and some are a little bit different but we assure you... they are really, really fun and you don't need to know how to play anything in particular (ie. we won't be playing blackjack or poker or anything like that).
**FAQs:**
How many people will be participating? We usually have between 20 and 30 or so people in attendance. We don't exactly gender balance the event occasionally we have a few more women than men and sometimes we have a few more men than women. Either way we make sure you get to meet a good amount of singles of the opposite gender.
Can I come alone? Yes about 75% of those attending will be coming solo. But you can also invite friends to join you. Everyone must have a ticket to enter.
Is there a dress code? No specific dress code. We just suggest "neat casual"
