The Minority Report
The Minority Report is a weekly stand-up comedy show about identity, culture, and the expat experience.
Are you a minority in Europe? Did something weird, awkward, or low-key offensive happen to you this week?
This is the space to vent your feelings about it.
Every week, comedians Bryan Lee and Moe Singleton take the stage to unpack life as outsiders, offering their unique commentary on topics like race, masculinity, relationships, and life between cultures.
Add weekly special guest comedians and āquestion timeā with the audience, and youāve got Berlinās most unhinged comedy experience.
šļø Want to warm up before the show?
Check out our comedy workshop ā a beginner-friendly stand-up class with Bryan and Moe, hosted just before the show.
Search Technology Meetup - January 2026 edition
We are very excited to announce another Search Tech Berlin Meetup. The meetup will be hosted and sponsored by Zalando (thank you!).
**Agenda**
18:15 - Doors open
18:45 - Introduction
19:00 - **Talk: Samay Kapadia: Multi-Modal Embedding Search with modern VLMs**
19:40 - Networking, food & drinks
20:00 - **Talk: David Fennesey: Automating the tedium of golden sets with agentic flows**
20:40 - Letās socialize and grab some drinks
21:00 - Doors closing
**Talks**
**1) Multi-Modal Embedding Search with modern VLMs**
Samay Kapadia, Principal ML Engineer, Zalando
Creating a state-of-the-art search embedding model for products, that supports both text and visual inputs. Since there are no open-weight multimodal embedding models, we will convert VLMs like Qwen3 and Ministral 3 into embedding models using LoRA (Low Rank Adapters).
**2) David Fennesey: Automating the tedium of golden sets with agentic flows**
David Fennesey, Principal Engineer, Flink
Search relevancy optimization, such as taxonomies, labeling, and query classification, is expensive to build and painful to maintain. Modern reasoning LLMs, with a small agentic framework around them are easily capable of exploring, evaluating, and iterating through your data. This talk builds that workflow from scratch: tool calls for strategic exploration and guardrails to keep it in check.

klug machendes Gesellschafts-Spiel
(English below)
\*\*\* english version \*\*\*
"Can a whale be a parakeet?"
\~> Of course not!
"Can a window be a drink?"
\~> Everyone knows that's impossible.
"Can a democracy be a republic?"
"Can a conjecture be an opinion?"
"Is grasping something the same as understanding something?"
\~> Well, now it gets tricky!
And it gets exciting...
Nothing stimulates thought quite like this new party game.
The rules:
1. Everyone writes a term on a slip of paper.
2. The slips of paper are drawn in pairs.
3. We project the meaning of the two words onto the wall using a projector.
4. Everyone can add to/edit the meaning using a laptop or smartphone, and must provide examples of why something could be the same, or could never be the same.
5. After a while, no one can think of anything else. The differences and similarities between the two words are clearly highlighted.
Then the score is tallied:
(+1) Each new entry adding meaning earns one point.
(-2) However, each deleted entry deducts two points.
(+5) Each improvement on the existing meaning in Reclue earns five points.
The understanding of all players becomes much clearer, especially with frequent play.
The goal for the entire group is to reach at minimum 50 points.
The game also works in multiple languages.
You may join us from home using the internet. Comments in meetup-app will be used to organize that it works.
The location (somewhere in Prenzlauer Berg) will be published the day when it takes place.

š£ āI loved F\*ck the Small Talk, I was a little bit nervous at first but they are pros at making you feel comfortable with the rest of the group, the activities are really fun and I enjoyed every second (consider that the one who's saying this is very, very shy). Give it a try!ā - Brenda
š£ "Itās a wonderful experience, itās like being a kid again, when you were at the park, playing with other kids, and just decided you were going to be best friends for the next hours. 9/11 Birds and the Bees - Dark Stand-up Comedy Solo in English
A dark Stand-up comedy hour in English about surviving the world's most infamous terrorist attack.
Edinburgh Fringe critically acclaimed solo hour comes to Berlin!
[Tickets](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/911-birds-and-the-bees-tickets-1980096481880)
Where were you on 9/11? Sitting in school? Sitting on the toilet? Nowhere of note? Well, Sofia May, the other hand, was runningāfor her lifeā from the dust cloud and debris as the World Trade Center toppled next to her school in downtown Manhattan and now, as an adult, she's processed a lot of that trauma, continues to grieve, and is ready to get hilarious.
In this stand-up comedy solo hour, Sofia May takes the audience on a gruesome comedic journey of her experience as a tween survivor of the history's most outrageous terrorist attack.
[Tickets](https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/911-birds-and-the-bees-tickets-1980096481880)
"Itās the kind of story that, on paper, shouldnāt be funny and yet in Sofiaās hands, it absolutely is. Her delivery is fearless, and the material so far beyond the usual stand-up fare that it makes every ādating traumaā or āannoying in-lawā anecdote feel laughably trivial."
ā The Nerd Party
"Sofia was a student at the school closest to the towers when they fell on 9/11 and has been in therapy ever since. But this isnāt one of those Edinburgh Fringe sob story shows; itās an hour of engaging and wickedly dark humour that Sofia navigates with a Cheshire Cat-like grin"

The Question of Intelligence: Human vs. Artificial
### The Question of Intelligence: Humans and AI
Intelligence is one of the most fascinating and debated aspects of life. We admire it, study it, and try to measure itābut what does it truly mean? And how does human intelligence compare to artificial intelligence?
Humans think, imagine, create, analyze, predict, and solve problems. Machines can do many of these things tooāoften faster or on a larger scaleābut they do so without consciousness, emotions, or moral understanding. AI can process vast amounts of data and find patterns we might miss, but can it truly understand, be creative, or make ethical judgments?
In this session, weāll explore questions such as:
* What makes human intelligence uniqueāand where does AI complement or surpass us?
* How do learning, memory, and experience shape human and artificial minds?
* Can intelligence exist without consciousness or awareness?
* How do ethics, emotions, and imagination factor into the intelligence equation?
* What can AI teach us about our own mindsāand where should we be cautious?
This will be an open, curious conversation where science, philosophy, and daily life intersect. Together, weāll reflect on what it means to think, understand, and be intelligent in a world shared by humans and machines.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started ā but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome ā please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. š¤ š

Humanist Community Celebrating Darwin Day
Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program:
Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there!
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Sip & Read: *Founder Edition* Meetup: "The 5AM Club" by Robin Sharma
Calling all founders, CEOs, lawyers, doctors, and entrepreneurs to join our special *Founder Edition* of Sip & Read meetup event. Let's sip on fine wine and discuss our first book **The 5AM Club- Own Your Morning Elevate Your Life, by Robin Sharma**. We will pair this book with our favorite wine at **Wine on High** and engage in thought-provoking discussions on startup businesses and entrepreneurship, and network with like-minded individuals in a cozy book club setting.
*The 5AM Club* by Robin Sharma explores how waking up early and following a structured morning routine can dramatically improve productivity, mindset, and overall life mastery. Through a blend of storytelling and practical frameworks, it teaches high performers how to build discipline, focus, and long-term success by owning the first hour of the day.
Come prepared to discuss this month's book. At the end of each book club meeting, we will take next book and venue suggestions from the participants for the next meeting.
Whether you are a book lover, women entrepreneur, or a content creator, this event is perfect for sharing ideas and insights with other funders and founders in the entrepreneurial world. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to connect, learn, and grow together. Sign up now to reserve your spot!
*Fun fact! This meetup was established in 2015 and had over 1,000 members. I had to shut down operations while attending law school, but we're back!!*
