Compassion for yourself and the world
Compassion for yourself and the world
In the middle of busy routines and constant mental noise, it’s easy to lose touch with ourselves and with a deeper sense of presence and care. This workshop is a gentle space to slow down, reconnect, and cultivate compassion — both for yourself and for the world around you. Through guided meditation, quiet reflection, and a simple creative drawing exercise, we’ll explore compassion as something lived and embodied, not just an idea. No meditation or artistic experience is needed. The session is designed to help you feel more grounded, release mental tension, reconnect with self-compassion, and experience a calm, intentional reset for the weekend. ✨ All are warmly welcome. Please bring comfortable clothes and an open mind.

AI Workshop Beginners
AI Workshop Beginners
Hi guys, I write a free newsletter about AI, tech, entrepreneurship, and Hong Kong called *Better Read Paul* ([Paul Muller | Substack](https://substack.com/@paulmuller)). While working on it, talking to founders, and seeing how people actually use AI day to day, I kept noticing the same thing: there’s a lot of excitement about AI, but very little practical guidance. At the same time, AI has become a big part of my own daily work. I use it constantly to move faster, think more clearly, and save time. And that’s what pushed me to organize these workshops. The idea is simple: very little theory, and as much hands-on practice as possible. This is not a class where you listen to me talk for two hours, but rather a big conversation where I’ll show you how to use these tools (Claude Code, Nano Banana, ChatGPT, etc.), what you can do with them, and how you can apply them to your own workflow depending on what you do. We will cover: * How to use Claude Code to build a WordPress website and a simple program to learn a language * How to use Claude to rewrite a LinkedIn post or any other social media content * How to use Nano Banana to create a marketing canvas for any brand Cost: 200HKD for 2h Place: Causeway Bay (Precise location will be given on WhatsApp) Time: 11am-1pm What to bring: A notepad, your laptop (Only if you need help and already use some AI tools). AI can be incredibly useful, but there are a few things people don’t always tell you. Many tools are paid. The results don’t always live up to expectations. Some tools crash, go down, or need maintenance right when you need them most. And many of them magically produce perfect output without effort. So in the end, the real questions are: what actually slows you down every day at work? Can an AI tool help with that? Is the quality good enough? And is it worth paying for, given the time you save? That’s why I want to run these AI workshops, to help people understand how these tools really work, and to give them the space to experiment and apply AI to their own workflows in a practical and realistic way. Paul

Scrabble
Scrabble
A chilled-out Saturday afternoon playing Scrabble and/or Upwords. **The Plan** * 1400 Arrive at Eaton Hotel - go to the food court on Lower Ground floor & look for a table with a Scrabble box. * Stay and play as long as you want to! **What To Do** 1. RSVP here 2. Please ensure the organiser knows your Meetup username & the name/pronouns you usually use. If you’re new and/or don’t yet know the organiser, please DM the organiser with this information via Meetup, or join the Scrabble WhatsApp chat within the Tandem community. **Please note:** 1. Tandem is a community of volunteers; everything you see is created by our members giving up their time and labour. None of our organisers profit from events; any charges listed are those from other parties and we never add a mark-up. In this context, we need attendees to do their best to reduce the workload of our volunteer team by reading the event description and these notes carefully; and follow the instructions in order to register a place on the event. Please be considerate and helpful with our team – we are all volunteers. 2. We run all our event communication through WhatsApp. Please keep track of event related messages in the Whatsapp event group and respond to requests and instructions from organisers within 24hrs. Please don’t put the chat on mute. If our team don’t receive your response within 24hrs, we will move you to “Not Going”. 3. If you require special accessibility accommodations for the event (i.e., accessible venue, accessible restrooms, noise levels, lighting conditions, etc) and are unsure whether they can be met, please reach out to the organiser/host. 4. We encourage language inclusivity at all our events. If you aren't confident in English, please let our team know. We will try to provide bilingual support where possible and/or will try and introduce you to other language speakers you're more comfortable with. Please be mindful that we might not be able to accommodate all languages at all events, but we will do our best to make everyone feel welcome and heard. 5. If you sign up, but can no longer make it, please update your RSVP as soon as possible and tell the organiser. Updating your RSVP well ahead of the event allows us to manage the waitlist; allow other people to attend; know who to look out for at the start of the event; and manage any relevant bookings, such as table reservations. 6. If you don’t have a clear face pic on your profile and/or your username doesn’t match the name you normally use, we can’t identify your payments nor match your RSVP with who you are in real life. If this is you, please ensure the organiser knows who you are. If we can’t work out who you are within 24hrs of your RSVP, we will move you to “Not Going”. 7. Only group members and their guests with an RSVP may attend events; people who aren’t signed up will be refused entry to events. 8. If you don’t follow the conditions above, we will move you to “Not Going” for future events until you message us to confirm you will follow these conditions.

Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
**Welcome to Drunken Philosophy** a casual, curious social discussion **Optional topic for this meetup: What's up with all the AI hate?** A recent survey found that 74% of Americans have a negative view of AI, and I want to know why. Come out and debate whether AI is good or bad. My hot take: a labor-saving tool that could potentially help cure cancer gets called dangerous because it might raise unemployment or cause a speculative investment bubble, that tells you a lot more about capitalism and the economic system we live under than it does about the tool itself. As a computer programmer, I think AI is a wonderful tool that has increased my productivity by at least an order of magnitude. I'd go so far as to say Claude Code is the best tool I have ever used. Debate me and name a better one. Is AI potentially dangerous? Yes, but so are a lot of tools. Chainsaws. Steam engines (early ones would occasionally explode and kill everyone in the room). Do you think cavemen sat around debating whether fire could be used as a weapon or for self-harm, and decided not to discover it? I have two friends who hate AI for opposite reasons: one thinks it's a fad and not useful, and the other thinks it's going to take over everything and cause human extinction. Come out tonight, have a friendly debate, and make some friends. No lectures. Friendly crowd. Drop in for one drink and stay if it's fun.
