Friday Night Fitness Skate
Join us for the Friday Night Fitness Skate! A 12 or 8 mile fitness skate that skates the same route each week so you will know the route and pavement hazards (since it is dark) and be able to work on form, endurance or speed as the cold wind is pushing against you! ;) The route has nice long stretches of uninterrupted skating, open roads with very few cars and the regroups are short and infrequent.
We will meet at Freedom Plaza at 7pm as long as it is not raining, snowing and the pavement is not wet or icy. Weโll warm up with a skate to the Capital and then skate along the mall and museums to the National Monument. We will then head to the Lincoln Memorial through the World War II Memorial.
From the Lincoln we will proceed to Haynes Point down Ohio Drive with the option to take the 3 mile Haynes Point loop (12 mile total skate) or practice stops or stunts at the regroup spot while others skate the loop (8.5 mile total skate.)
The skate is mostly flat on good pavement with a small slope coming down from the Washington Monument and a 40 yard small slop from the Lincoln to Ohio Drive and a couple patches here and there.
The wind can be very strong and cold especially on Ohio Drive and Haynes Point as we skate adjacent to the water.
Please feel free to jazz up your gear with lights, I wear a helmet bike light (since it is pretty dark) and a set of body lights. Most of the regulars skate with lighted wheels for fun! Wear your lights so you have fun, can see and be seen!
In case of bad weather, I will update this post via the comment section around 6pm on Friday.
Of course, all skating is at your own risk.
Hope you will come join us!
Open Shop Hours
We will have open shop hours for anyone to bring their bikes to work on or need help fixing your own bike.
We will also have bikes that need to be fixed so you can learn if you like.
We will need everyone to sign in when arriving and sign out when leaving so we can keep track of volunteer hours and shop times.
Suggested donation of $15 per hour for use of tools and space would be appreciated. Thank you!

Handy Bikes | Beginners' No Drop Ride
Meet in the parking lot of the Handy Bikes Service Center.
At the start of each ride, we'll go over introductions to have a sense of participants' cycling experience.
Over the course of our rides, we'll address the following:
group riding dynamics;
safety (ABC check & trail hazards); gear shifting;
hill climbing;
audible and hand communication within the group, with other trail users, and automobile drivers;
what to bring on each ride; etc...
Bring your questions, water & a snack.
When it starts getting dark earlier, we'll need lights as well.
Helmets a MUST.
If you can, and especially if you've had issues with your bike, come a bit early to have it looked at ahead of the ride.
PS - all levels are welcome to join, however, be mindful that if you are an experienced rider, please be prepared to ride at the pace of the newest rider in the group.
Each week, depending on who's in attendance, and participants' riding ability/comfort level, we may do skills practice as a group in the parking lot or at the west end of Wheeler Ave. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll go for a ride on local trails and neighborhood streets and finish back at the shop.
Happy Pedaling !!

From Sligo Creek we head west past Holy Cross Hospital and through the Forest Glen neighborhood. We then turn south on to Rock Creek Trail.
Earth Day Festivities with occur in Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park, approximately 6 miles into the ride. Face painting, snow cones, art activities and exhibits promoting a variety of environmental and sustainability causes will be there! The picnic stop is at Meadowbrook Local Park, 12.5 miles into the ride.
**Please charge your batteries. The ride is on asphalt and often flat but we will encounter some hills. As usual, non-assisted bikers are most welcome.**
Bring snacks, lunch and plenty of water. Pump tires, check brakes and charge your battery. Consider packing a spare tire tube. Check weather and dress appropriately.
As always, this is a self-guided event. **We recommend you download the Ride with GPS route.** [https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46073614](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46073614)
The group stops a few times for slower riders to catch up. The distance will be 18.4 miles or shorter any time you are fully satisfied with biking for the day.
For the E-bike Lovers group to be successful, we need to grow our membership carefully. Please feel free to invite other E-bike lovers, spread the word, and let's have fun.

Anacostia River Trail: Bladensburg Waterfront to The Wharf and Back
**\*\*Check back to see if the date or start time has changed. This ride will be postponed (possibly replaced with another ride) if the chance of rain is above 49%, or wind speed or wind gusts are above 15 mph (per Accuweather) \*\***
**TRAIN OR BUS STOPS**
College Park Station
Hyattsville Station
Riverdale Station
**PARKING ADDRESS**
Bladensburg Waterfront Park
4601 Annapolis Rd, Bladensburg, MD (map link) Bladensburg Waterfront Park is located right where Bladensburg Rd becomes Annapoli ยท Washington, DC
**PARKING AND MEETUP SPOT**
There is a plenty of parking. Park anywhere, then bike toward the visitor center and caboose. Meet us between the train caboose and bike racks. After check-in, weโll do an icebreaker question.
**BIKE ROUTE SUMMARY**
This route is hairpin shaped because weโll return back on the north side of the river for a couple miles before taking a bridge back to the other side.
The trail will wind behind the visitor center and go along the river towards DC.
(If anyone wants to take a side trail to see the Kenilworth Gardens, let us know so we can show you the entry point). We hug the river at the beginning and pass it again at the last 3 miles down. We pass by Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, go through fields, parks, a train track overpass bridge, and the Anacostia River Park - where we may start to see boats and yachts on the river. We'll take a couple of stops to regroup on the way.
At the end of the Anacostia River Park, weโll go leftwards towards the new Frederick Douglass Bridge which may tempt you to take some photos. After crossing, weโll pass through the Audi Arena and turn left to take a break at the Titanic Memorial at the waterfront. Weโll then go to the Wharf which will require dismounting our bikes once we get to the busier areas.
**RETURN**
Weโll head up on the west side. Go slowly through The Yards district and enjoy the landscape, sculpture art, river views etc.
Right after the Navy Yards district boardwalk โ-**be aware of the large pavers in front of the Navy Yard** (after crossing the narrow inlet bridge) โ many pavers have wide, deep gaps in between them so bike tires can get stuck while riding, causing a flip or fall.
Halfway up, weโll take Benning Rd bridge across to the east side, then turn right and right again to get back to Bladensburg Waterfront Park.
**TYPE OF BIKE:** Any kind of bike frame and tires. Ensure it is the correct frame size for your height so you can get maximum output. Participants are responsible for ensuring their bike tires, brakes, and chain are in good condition and they have a spare tire on hand. Organizers can try to help but aren't responsible for everyone's bike conditions.
**SKILL LEVEL:** All levels can enjoy this trail. It only has about three short inclines.
**PACE:** Itโs up to you. HOWEVER: The event organizers have fit legs (avg. 10-18 mph). And some of us like to do a cardio workout at some point. We make stops at tricky points on the trail and /or to regroup every 2-4 miles. Since paved trails can sometimes be crowded, we donโt have expectations of being able to go very fast.
ยท If you prefer a **faster pace** than the lead riders, you can make stops to wait for them to catch up.
ยท If youโre **not sure what your avg. speed** is, be prepared to use a nav app to ride solo in case you donโt catch up to us at our stops.
**DISTANCE OPTIONS**
Participants can choose to return at any point. These are just suggestions.
**OPTION A:** Bike about three miles to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, then return
**OPTION B:** Bike about 8 miles to the Anacostia Park, then return.
**OPTION C:** Bike \~ 9.6 miles to The Wharf, DC and back. The event organizers plan to do this route.
OPTIONAL ONE HOUR BREAK: Weโll take a break to explore the Wharf boardwalk piers, shops, fountain areas, and to eat/drink, rest, and socialize. (Organizers will eat at Falafel Inc. They have a $6 falafel salad bowl. All are welcome to join us or go their own way for the break.) **Meet at 1:00 at [location to TBD] to head back.**
**OPTION D:** Bike option C then add more mileage by biking the NW Branch Trail , and then connecting to one of the other local trails.
**BATHROOMS**
Bathrooms available at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park, Anacostia Park, and at The Wharf Boardwalk area, as well as the Navy Yard area where weโll be stopping to enjoy river views.
**BIKE RENTALS**
Rentals are available at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park visitor center. You can reserve online before the date.
**BIKE REPAIR**
Bike repair options are at the visitor center and at The Wharf boardwalk in DC
**RECOMMENDATIONS**
**Bring:** Water bottles, snacks, biking gloves, bike bell, bike lock, helmet visor, sunglasses, bike tube, pump, patch, first aid kit, mobile phone with nav app installed (e.g. Google maps, we use RidewithGPS). If you get leg cramps during or after a ride, take electrolytes before and during your ride (or add salt and magnesium to your water). A change of clothes for your ride home or a car seat cover to absorb sweat.
Clothing: Wear biking gloves and durable clothing so that if you do fall, your skin is protected. Avoid wearing all black, all grey, all dark brown, or all dark blue, which blends in with pavement, especially while riding through a shady segment. Consider wearing something lighter to help others notice you.
**REQUIREMENTS**
**Participants must wear tightly secured helmets when on their bike.**
**Be proactive to avoid a fall/crash and minimize injury:**
ยท Keep a distance between yourself and other bikers. If the biker ahead of you suddenly stops, you should be able to avoid hitting them.
ยท Donโt make stops on the trail. Pull over to the side and use hand gestures to let people know youโre slowing down to make a stop.
ยท Yelling out โPassing on your leftโ and/or ringing a bike bell as you approach people ahead of you, so they donโt inadvertently move in your line of travel.
ยท Slowing down to wait, rather than speeding up when trying to pass people at the same time walkers/bikers are approaching you from the opposite direction.
ยท Avoid potholes and debris and slow down when approaching bumps
ยท When approaching road crossings and iffy situations, triple-check before crossing and donโt let yourself be distracted by talking, etc.
ยท Ensure your helmet is tightly secured so that it wonโt move if you hit the ground.
**MEETUP POLICIES**
Participants should understand that biking is an inherently dangerous activity, and an accident could happen at any time. **Participation is at your own risk**.
An RSVP of โYesโ to an event is your digital signature acknowledging that you have read, understood, and agree with Meetupโs and MD Rail Trail Bikingโs policies, esp. section 6 โReleaseโ and section 8.2 โ Limitation of Liability,โ found at [https://www.meetup.com/terms/](https://www.meetup.com/terms/)

Day Hike - Humpback Rocks and Dobie Mtn (7.7mi)
Humpback Rocks is one of the most scenic views on the AT in Virginia. Let's combine it with a hike up Dobie Mountain for a moderate loop.
## **Trail Facts**
* **Difficulty Level: Moderate**
* **Length:** 7.7 Miles
* **Duration:** 4-5 hrs
* **Elevation Gain:** 1,745 Feet
* **Permits:** None
* **Meeting Location**: Vienna Metro Stationโ South
* **Parking Location:** Humpbacks Rocks Visitor Center
* **Meeting Time**: 8:00 AMโ
* **Driving Time**: Approximately 2.5 hr
* **Dogs:** Allowed (with caution - small scrambles)
* **Trailhead Coordinates:** 37.968461, -78.896603
* **AllTrails Map**: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/humpback-rocks-and-dobbie-mountain
**CARPOOL:** If you need a ride or can offer one, please coordinate in the event comments. Be a friend to the environment, save money, and make friends.
**Trail Details:**
Humpback Rocks is an extremely popular section of the AT for good reason - the 360-degree summit views of the George Washington National Forest are stunning. Glass Hollow Overlook views are also impressive, and may still have the remnants of a plane crash from years ago.
We will meet at Vienna Metro at 8AM and carpool to the trailhead. Drive time is about 2 hour and 30 mins.
For drivers - Note that trailhead parking is limited, so we may need to park at the Humpback Rocks Visitor Center that is about 0.2 miles from the trailhead.
Once at the trailhead, we will follow the trail counter-clockwise, first making a steep climb up to Humpback Rocks. After enjoying the view, we will follow the AT to the Glass Hollow Overlook to enjoy another view and look for plane crash remnants. Finally, we will turn off of the AT on the the Jack Albright Loop trail and finish the hike with a modest climb up Dobie Mountain. Make sure to bring water and snacks. Dogs are allowed on this trail.

Saturday Run - 50 min (25 out and 25 back)
This is our once a year run to the Cherry Blossoms. We will start at Roosevelt Island at the crosswalk in the center of parking lot.
Afterwards stay for coffee, we'll wander up to Rosslyn and either meet in Compass or, if the weather is nice enough, at the Plaza opposite the Metro.
Note: Photos taken during the event may end up on Instagram, Meetup, Strava and similar platforms.
LOCATION:
Roosevelt Island Parking Lot. Use this map to locate the parking lot (https://www.google.com/maps/place/38%C2%B053'48.2%22N+77%C2%B004'02.1%22W) [GPS: 38ยฐ53'51.99"N 77ยฐ 4'3.24"W]. To help new people find the group, please meet in the middle of the parking lot. Please meet 10 min. before the start time.
Alternative location, ONLY when indicated, on the Custis trail, on the North side of Gateway Park, near Langston Blvd and Lynn St: https://maps.app.goo.gl/3SNFYSkFv9rRQed37
PACE and MILEAGE:
All paces are welcome! This is a longer route but people can just turn around at 25 minutes if they want. We generally average from 8-12 min/miles and run for fifty minutes. But, you can run any amount of time or mileage. And if you need to walk, it's not a problem either, everyone needs to start somewhere!
ROUTE:
This is a different route than normal, it takes us to the tidal basin and - if you are doing the full thing - around it. https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/5425893562.
The full circuit works out to almost 6.5 miles so even faster runners might not do it in the usual 50 minutes.
PARKING:
Use this map (http://bit.ly/i2dWD0) to find parking in Rosslyn. There are parking lots at Roosevelt Island and above the Continental Lounge. There are also meters and pay garages.
DIRECTIONS:
For those of you driving to Roosevelt Island, please note that the parking lot is only accessible from the NORTHBOUND lane of GW parkway. You will see it right after the Roosevelt Bridge.
METRO:
Orange or blue to Rosslyn. From N. Moore St, turn left; right onto 19th St; cross Lynn St. and turn left; take the trail on the right just before the Key Bridge.

WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like youโve seen in period films such as โPride and Prejudiceโ, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. Thatโs English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like โswing your partnerโ and โdo-si-do,โ like youโve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alรก โRiverdance.โ Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THATโs Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.

Free In-Person Meeting: Healing from Trauma and Past Betrayals
This is a free, in person meeting.
Burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to โpin the blameโ on someone or something. If you donโt find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse.
Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well.
Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, donโt know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe youโve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship.
Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action?
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships!
Break free from self imposed limitations
Here we will discuss:
โข How to โeraseโ the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isnโt always repeating past mistakes.
โข Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you?
โข Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it?
โข Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love?
โข Fights & arguments - what's really behind them?
โข What underlies โcorrosive criticismโ or the need to invalidate self or others?
โข How one can stably change oneโs outlook on life so they can affect positive change?
โข Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them?
โข How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about?
โข How to enhance oneโs own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or oneโs career?
Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general.
Learn where painful experiences are โstoredโ and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can โeraseโ those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become โtoxicโ personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you wonโt be tripped up trusting the wrong person.
Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life.
We look forward to having you join us!
This class is sponsored by the Dianetics & Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.

This is your chance.
Whether you're a seasoned headbanger or completely new, weโd love to have you out.

๐ง A high-energy bass set that you *feel*
๐ A labyrinth of trippy, explorable art spaces

You can lose yourself in the crowd, disappear into another room, find something completely unexpected, and then come back right as the drop hits.
No pressure, no โright wayโ to do it โ just explore, move, and take it in at your own pace.
๐ Otherworld, Columbus

What If Your AI Could Be a Team? - Chad Green
**Important time note:** Please plan on arriving between 5:30 and 6:00 as the elevators lock after 6 and you'll need to message us and we'll need to come get you.
The building address is 4450 Bridge Park
The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400
You will need to scan your ID at the door to get a visitor badge.
**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.

Prompt vs. Paintbrush
AI is changing how art is made. But when does it stop being your work and start being the machineโs?
This month we're going to be doing a panel with with digital image, music, and written word artists, talking about at what point, while using AI in the creation process, does the work become not the artist creation?
We encourage audience participation during this event that will be moderated by Chris Slee.
Whether youโre deep in the field or just getting curious, come connect with others building and exploring AI in Columbus.
