🎉 **Melbourne AWS User Group – May Meetup** 🎉
📅 **Wednesday, 27 May**
📍 **NAB Events Hub – 395 Bourke Street, Melbourne**
⏰ **Food at 6:00 pm, talks from 6:30 pm (with live stream)**
We're fresh from the excitement of **AWS Summit Sydney**, and the energy is still high! This month, we’re keeping that momentum alive by bringing a piece of the Summit back to Melbourne, alongside an inspiring journey of a cloud newcomer.
This month, we’re following the path from a first-ever cloud deployment to managing complex, event-driven IoT systems. Whether you’re just starting your cloud journey or looking to refine how you monitor production-scale data platforms, there’s something here for you.
**This month’s lineup features:**
* **Nolan Cui**, sharing his authentic "From Zero to First Deploy" journey, highlighting the lessons learned and mistakes made during his first steps into the cloud.
* **Matthew Gillard**, presenting an extended version of his **AWS Summit Sydney** talk on data observability, specifically focusing on practical patterns for event-driven IoT platforms.
A huge thank you to our sponsors: 🥇 **Mantel Group** – Gold Sponsor, 🥈 **Cevo** – Silver Sponsor, 🏛 **NAB** – Venue Sponsor.
The event will be live-streamed on YouTube as always.
🗓️ **Agenda**
* **6:00 pm** – Food & Socialising
* **6:30 pm** – Introductions
* **6:40 pm** – What’s New in AWS
* **6:55 pm** – **From Zero to First Deploy: My AWS Beginner Journey** (Level 100); Speaker: **Nolan Cui**
* **7:20 pm** – **Data Observability Without the Pain** (Level 200); Speaker: **Matthew Gillard**
* **7:55 pm** – Marketplace (Who’s Hiring)
* **8:00 pm** – Networking + Close
🎤 **Talk Details**
**From Zero to First Deploy: My AWS Beginner Journey**
**Speaker:** Nolan Cui **Level:** 100
Nolan is still quite new to AWS, but his passion for cloud tech has led him from "just exploring" to building his first working cloud setup. In this lightning talk, he walks through his first hands-on experiences, the mistakes he made, and the valuable lessons he learned along the way. Nolan will also briefly touch on how he plans to apply these lessons by moving oward a fully serverless design for his upcoming real-world projects.
**Data Observability Without the Pain: 3 practical patterns from a production IoT platform**
**Speaker:** Matthew Gillard **Level:** 200
Modern IoT platforms are inherently data platforms. When events flow through APIs, queues, Lambda functions, and device networks, tracing a single event can become a nightmare. This fast-paced talk provides three practical observability patterns drawn from building and operating a production healthcare IoT platform that processes tens of thousands of events daily.
Using **OpenTelemetry**, **AWS X-Ray**, and **Honeycomb**, Matt will explore techniques for gaining visibility into asynchronous event pipelines and correlating activity across distributed services. You’ll leave with concrete patterns you can apply immediately to your own event-driven systems.
> **Note:** This is an extended, deep-dive version of the talk Matt is presenting at **AWS Summit Sydney**!
🙌 **Want to Speak at a Future Meetup?**

Have you ever felt or been told that it is too hard to be successful?
What does it take to stand out from the crowd, or be considered a professional?
Find out what it takes to succeed, whether it be in relationships, in a job or in creating your own business. What ever the area, you can be a professional. That is a fact.
This seminar will include topics, such as:
* Professionalism
* The Five Ways to Address a Problem
* How to "WEAR YOUR HAT"
* PLUS MORE
There will also be a personality test after the seminar is completed which will help to isolate which areas of your life need to be addressed, so that you can then improve on those areas!
Depression, Anxiety, Stress and worry are real concerns when we consider mental health. What causes the overwhelming sadness, the insomnia, the frightening panic attacks, the lack of energy, the mental fatigue and nervousness experienced by so many people.
https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/2/8/1/0/600_459310256.jpeg
Even a temporary state of stress can affect our ability to reason and result in actions or decisions that have disastrous long-term results.
What is it that is holding you back and stops you from being YOU?
Quality of life depends so much on mental health. People desire happiness but authentic happiness is often short-lived. Sometimes only a dim memory from childhood. Children are known for their ability to find joy in the simplest of things. What is it that affects a person's ability to experience true happiness?
The Circumstances are the same, but the person no longer responds with positive emotions. Instead he or she may have a persistent gnawing anger, fear or sadness that depresses the consciousness and brings the person to reliance on pills or alcohol.
The change may be gradual, occurring slowly over many years or it can be sudden, triggered by a traumatic stress such as the death of a loved one or a broken heart.
The answer to these problems has been searched for for thousands of years but the problem appears to getting worse, with the rates of depression and suicide climbing alarmingly. Very few lives remain unaffected either directly or indirectly by these modern scourges.
Could it be that the modern "treatments" and "solutions" to these problems are actually making things worse? That could only occur if the people developing and using these "treatments" did not know the true underlying reason for these problems.
Today's meetup topic is based on Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard
We will discuss the underlying reason for depression, anxiety, fear, nervousness, unhappiness, phobias and many other unwanted emotions and reactions as revealed and is fully explained in L. Ron Hubbard's book Dianetics.
Life can become fun again, just like it was when you were a child.
Hard to Believe? Well don't believe - find out for yourself and then you will KNOW.
You have the opportunity to have all your questions answered.
Nothing in Dianetics has to be true for you unless you have observed it and it is true according to your own observation.
Today's meetup enables you to make your own observations.
Make this go right for you, RSVP yes and ensure you attend this meetup.
Know Yourself, Know Life!

It uses neuroacoustic software, a biosignal processing disc, and light-blocking eye masks to guide brain waves from active beta states down to alpha/theta (relaxation/meditation) levels
NuCalm uses a patented, clinically proven pitch and frequency matrix with non-linear oscillating algorithms to safely present your brain with precise signals, prompting what is known as a frequency-following response. Your brain synchronizes with the incoming NuCalm signals helping you naturally and effortlessly manage your state of mind by speeding up or slowing down your brain wave frequencies.
NuCalm has mapped all of your brain wave frequency zones and created products to safely and predictably guide you to whatever mental state you desire.
The amazing thing is, NuCalm is all-natural and works every time you use it within minutes.

Internal Family Systems is a therapeutic approach that understands we are made up of many parts. Some are playful, creative or vulnerable. Others step in as protectors, who have developed to protect us at some point in our lives from pain, rejection or abandonment.
These protectors might show up as:
* the inner critic
* the people-pleaser
* the perfectionist
* the controller
* the caretaker
* the rebel
In this session, we will learn more about what IFS is. We will map some of the most common protector parts, focus in on one or two, and explore creative exercises to represent and/or dialogue with these parts. There will be an optional sharing to close.
The duration of the workshop will be between 1.5 and 2h depending on the number of attendees.
If you are facing financial stress, please type 'Concession' as a promo code for a discounted price of $25. If this is still difficult, please reach out. I am happy to make arrangements, and no one will be turned away. Contact me at [greenhouse.arttherapy@gmail.com](http://greenhouse.arttherapy@gmail.com/)
**Please note:**
This workshop introduces IFS-informed Art Therapy as a practice, but is not intended to replace individual or group therapy, which involves a deeper exploration of our histories, intentional collaboration and the building of a therapeutic relationship. This workshop is also not intended for emergency crisis support or intervention.
* If you are comfortable with me taking photos of you and/or your artwork for learning and supervision purposes, and to offer others a sense of what the workshop is like, please let me know at the start of the session. Your participation would be greatly appreciated!

This is an in-person meeting. At this meeting you will get answers to depression and anxiety. Find out the source of them and how to get rid of them.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, hopelessness, anger, fear, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not due to a chemical imbalance in your brain from some nebulous chemical reaction "by chance".
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
