Read & Reflect: A Social Reading Circle.
Shared Pages, Shared Insights.
Read & Reflect: A Social Reading Circle. Shared Pages, Shared Insights.
📚 Do you love reading, but wish you had a structure and a community to share your insights with? Join our small circle of curious minds (just 4 members per gathering) as we come together for an hour of focused reading—in the calm setting of a library or the cozy atmosphere of a café. Here’s how it works: First part: Quiet reading on your own—bring a book you’re exploring, whether it’s philosophy, history, psychology, literature, or anything meaningful to you. Second part: We regroup and each person shares key takeaways, insights, or questions sparked by their reading. This sparks a structured yet free-flowing conversation around ideas, perspectives, and personal reflections. Why join? Add structure to your reading habit. Discover new books, authors, and ideas through others’ choices. Build real connections by sharing and listening deeply. Socialize around something meaningful instead of small talk.
ReelAbilities Film Festival Showing of Sign The Show at NVRC
ReelAbilities Film Festival Showing of Sign The Show at NVRC
ReelAbilities Film Festival Screening: Sign the Show Groundbreaking and truly one of a kind, Sign the Show pulls back the curtain on accessibility in entertainment for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. Through humorous, heartfelt, and deeply insightful conversations, the documentary challenges assumptions, sparks laughter, and invites audiences to see access not as an add-on — but as essential. By centering lived experiences and honest dialogue, the film redefines what inclusion can look like on screen, on stage, and beyond. It explores the intersection of Deaf culture, performance, creativity, and equity in a way that is both thought-provoking and empowering. Special Live Talkback Discussion Following the screening, we’ll host a live discussion featuring the film’s director, Cat Brewer, joining us virtually via Zoom. She will be joined by Julie Rems Smario (featured in the film), offering behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the documentary, the creative process, and the larger conversation around accessibility in the arts. Accessibility Provided: ASL interpreters and CART captioning will be provided during the talkback to ensure full communication access for all attendees. Hosted at the Northern Virginia Resource Center for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Persons (NVRC), this event promises not only a compelling film experience but also a meaningful community conversation. Come ready to laugh, reflect, ask questions, and leave thinking differently about access and representation

Personally, I think this is the best kept secret in Leesburg. During the week, the owner rents out her cafe for private events, but on the weekends, it’s a cozy botanical cafe where you can get a beautiful plant to bring home after a good convo over a latte. In warmer weather, there’s a hidden patio in the back, where you can enjoy some tree-shaded privacy. Limited pastries and seating, but plenty of parking in the town garage across the street. Please join me, and add this to your itinerary next time you’re in Leesburg.

Insight Meditation of Northern Virginia
Insight Meditation of Northern Virginia
Whether you're new to Insight meditation or an advanced practitioner looking for like-minded people to sit with, you're welcome to join us at our Sunday morning drop-in group, sponsored by the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. Insight meditation cultivates our natural wisdom and compassion. Meditation practice develops concentration, which allows us to calm and steady the mind. This class includes a 30-minute lightly-guided meditation, followed by a short talk and time for questions and discussion. The size of the group usually runs somewhere between 25-40 people in-person and between 12-25 online. Chairs are provided, or you may bring a sitting cushion or bench. You may also use the blankets and bolsters offered by the yoga studio. **We offer both in-person and online attendance.** To learn more about our topics and teachers, view our videos or **get the Zoom link**, visit our [class page](https://imcw.org/event/?eventId=735&utm_source=MeetUp&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=vienna-drop-in).
Acoustic Gypsy Jazz Jam
Acoustic Gypsy Jazz Jam
We will play acoustic gypsy/swing jazz music. This time will be at a bar just around the corner from where we met last time. This way folks can order foods or drinks if they want and we can have more room to spread out and also will not have a hard stop time since the bar will be open anyway. The first jam we had out here in Leesburg was really fun and I met lots of fun new musician friends. Looking forward to this next one. Hopefully, we will see some of those great musicians who showed up last time and maybe some new faces as well. :) This space is also on the ground floor, so no stairs to walk up. Also still just around the corner from the free downtown parking garage. Tara Linhardt

SOLD OUT-Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Terrors of Irish Fairylore
SOLD OUT-Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: Terrors of Irish Fairylore
**This talk has completely sold out in advance and no door tickets will be available. It also is being staged at Penn Social in DC on March 16th and plenty of tickets remain available for that date.** [Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“Terrors of Irish Fairylore,”** an introduction to Ireland’s strange and unsettling folkloric “Good People,” with Brittany Warman, former instructor at Ohio State University, co-founder of The Carterhaugh School of Folklore and the Fantastic, and co-author of the new book *Fairylore: A Compendium of the Fae Folk.* [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-irish-fairy-terrors](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-irish-fairy-terrors) .] Today it is common to think of fairies as small, childlike, sparkly creatures with glittering wings and dresses made from flower petals. But the fae of traditional Irish folklore were no such things. Amoral, capricious, even malicious when they chose to be, the too-frequently forgotten fairies of times long past would, more often than not, haunt nightmares. Join Brittany Warman, a folklorist who has earned a devoted following among Profs and Pints fans, as she explores the darker side of Irish fairylore. The figures she'll discuss include: The Leanan-Sidhe, a vampiric fairy who gives artistic inspiration in exchange for your mortal spirit. The Dullahan, a fairy with a human spine for a whip and a habit of hurtling across fields in a death coach made from human skin. The Banshee, a mournful fairy whose cry signals a death in the family to which she's attached herself. Dr. Warman also will examine the surprising impact of fairy folklore on two classics of Irish Gothic literature, Oscar Wilde's *The Picture of Dorian Gray* and Bram Stoker's *Dracula.* It’s a talk that will remind you that the relationship between the Irish and the spooky stretches well beyond Halloween. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.)
