Bikablo Basics - Days 1&2
**bikablo Basic Days 1 & 2**
Join Jill, in person, for **Days 1 and 2**! In this two-day training, we focus on the basics of drawing and imagery in visual language: No matter your level of talent or skill, you will take your first visual steps up at the wall and learn how to use small details to make large spaces look clear, attractive, and lively. You will be working both individually and in small groups, and I will take plenty of time to answer your questions and guide you into the world of visual language with hints and techniques suited to fit your individual progress.
**Areas of focus and learning:**
* Holding the pen and drawing the line: How do I draw clean lines and structure my space on the flip chart?
* Graphics and text containers: How do I create simple arrows and connecting elements from basic geometric shapes in order to present related topics? Which text containers (e.g. speech bubbles) can be used to support which kinds of messages?
* Objects and symbols: How do I draw simple symbols to underline messages? What is essential, what can be left out?
* Drawing symbols: How can I easily draw and use symbols to convey meaning?
* Figures: What easy ways does bikablo® provide to draw people, roles, groups and situations?
* Color and space: What are simple and fast options to color elements and spaces in a quick and simple way that supports the graphic structure?
* Writing: How do I improve my handwriting on the flip chart to make it more legible and attractive?
* Posters and settings: Combine the ingredients (graphics, writing, symbols, figures, and color) to create visual translations of content and meaningful posters for different purposes (welcome, agenda, instructions, group work)

Profs & Pints DC: When Washington Burned
[Profs and Pints DC](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“When Washington Burned,”** a detailed look at the devastating 1814 British attack on the Capitol, with Denver Brunsman, associate professor of history at George Washington University, lecturer at Mount Vernon, and scholar of the American revolution and early American republic.
[Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/dc-when-washington-burned](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/dc-when-washington-burned) .]
You’ve probably toured several of Washington’s landmarks, but have you considered those that went up in smoke more than 200 years ago?
Learn about one of our nation’s greatest scares from historian Denver Brunsman, a favorite of Profs and Pints audiences and expert on the War of 1812, which led to the infamous 1814 attack. He’ll tell the riveting tale of how British troops torched the Capitol and White House and burned down nearly all of Washington’s public buildings.
He’ll frame his talk of such mayhem by discussing the origins and significance of the conflict that caused it, the War of 1812. In addition to helping to cement America’s independence, the War of 1812 helped give rise to a sense of nationalism among the people of Canada. It rallied boosters of the city of Washington—among them, First Lady Dolley Madison—to advocate for keeping it as the nation’s capital. With the war’s end, America was free to embark on two centuries of growth.
You’ll leave with a much greater appreciation of how our nation has withstood tests in the past and how much of Washington D.C. has been built upon the ruins of previous losses. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. The talk starts 30 minutes later.)

In-Person Event: The Answers to Depression & Anxiety
This is an in-person meeting. At this meeting you will get answers to depression and anxiety. Find out the source of them and how to get rid of them.
Did you know that unwanted emotions like anxiety, depression, unhappiness, loneliness, hopelessness, anger, fear, or feelings of irritation don’t just fall on you for no reason. They are not random occurrences that simply happen to people's minds. They are definitely not due to a chemical imbalance in your brain from some nebulous chemical reaction "by chance".
Your negative emotions are the symptoms of the painful experiences that you have which are not healed, and which are still affecting you.
The effects of these painful experiences are exacerbated by the pressures or difficulties of the other problems in your life.
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there.
