Conundrum Corner - Your Dilemmas Discussed..
*this event is advertised elsewhere so there will be more people coming than stated*
**✨ Welcome to Conundrum Corner at The Union Jack pub, Southwark! ✨**
Step inside and join a gathering *of* open minds and kind hearts. Whether you bring a conundrum of your own that you are experiencing or simply your listening ear, you’ll find a welcoming space to share, reflect, and explore life’s tricky questions together.
🌿 **What to expect:**
* You’re invited to share a conundrum, dilemma or question that you yourself are experiencing.
* We’ll vote on three intriguing ones to explore more deeply.
* With a few extra details in hand, we’ll break into small groups for thoughtful discussion.
* Then, we’ll come together as one big group to share insights, perspectives, and perhaps even some fresh solutions.
The atmosphere is **analytical yet empathetic, thoughtful yet light-hearted**, and always non-judgmental. Whether your conundrum is personal, professional, or just a head-scratcher, we’re here to help unravel it together.
💸 There’s no set fee to attend, but we do ask for donations on the night to cover costs - which are warmly appreciated!
🍷 Please also support our lovely hosts, Jade and co., by buying yourself a drink at the bar (and food’s available if you fancy a bite).
💡 **What’s a conundrum, you ask?**
A conundrum is any dilemma, crossroads, or confusion in your life—big or small. It could be a **"chicken and egg"** situation, a **"catch-22"**, or a **"have your cake and eat it"** kind of puzzle. Sometimes, life just throws us complex, messy questions—and that’s what we’re here to navigate together.
Once our deep discussions wind down, we’ll slip into **pub mode**—a chance to relax, connect, and continue chatting with newfound friends.
**🛡️ Code of Conduct - *please note***
Conundrum Corner is committed to providing a safe and respectful environment for all attendees. Any abuse, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour towards other attendees, whether during the event or in any contact related to the event afterwards, will result in permanent removal from the Meetup group and exclusion from future events.
Come along for an evening of intriguing conversations, fresh perspectives, and a touch of serendipity. Looking forward to seeing you there!

🗣️ **Talks**
➡️ **The Lost Art of Debugging: Why Your Browser is Smarter than AI - [Abdullah Ola Mudathir](https://www.linkedin.com/in/cruxcodes/)**
*The easiest thing to do is often what causes hours of debugging down the line. With LLMs becoming increasingly normalized in the industry, an overreliance on them can allow bugs to slip through the cracks.*
*In this talk, I'll demonstrate a practical debugging workflow: Debug first. Prompt second. I'll show how browser DevTools reveal what's actually happening faster than any AI can guess.*
*You'll learn:*
* *Essential DevTools features that improve your bug-fixing prowess*
* *When to reach for your browser and when AI can actually help*
* *The almost forgotten art of breakpoints and strategic console messages*
*AI in your codebase represents growth, but understanding your runtime state represents mastery. This talk is about balancing both and knowing which tool to reach for first.*
➡️ **Why Your Marketing Scripts and Cookie Banners Are Ruining Your Lighthouse Scores - [Christopher Burns](https://www.linkedin.com/in/burnedchris/)**
*Most marketing scripts and cookie banners run on the critical path. They block the main thread, delay first paint, and inject third-party code before the page is interactive.*
*Consent managers often make this worse by synchronously loading vendors, mutating the DOM repeatedly, and re-hydrating UI after page load. The result is slower LCP, higher TBT, and unstable CLS.*
*The fix is not fewer scripts, it is better orchestration. Treat consent as infrastructure, load vendors after intent, and keep compliance off the critical path.*

The 10am Eastside Session
A typical Eastside session is structured, challenging, and genuinely fun, with a strong, welcoming community at its core.
Every session is expertly coached, with clear guidance on exercise form and technique throughout. Coaches are active and engaged, offering encouragement and adaptations whenever needed, so everyone can train safely and confidently. No one is left behind.
Sessions begin with a thorough warm up, followed by a full body workout combining strength, cardio, and functional movement. Exercises are always scalable, ensuring the right challenge for every individual.
Each session includes a dedicated anaerobic block where intensity is deliberately increased and heart rate is pushed. This is where you safely push yourself, build fitness and resilience, and realise you are capable of more than you thought.
We finish with a short cool down and stretch, with time to ask questions and connect with the group.
You will work hard, feel supported, and leave every session feeling stronger, energised, and part of a tight knit community.

Automate All the Things?
🏎️ **If you’re not automating yet… you probably are.**
Be honest: how much of your job are you already secretly automating, and how much of it is just automation in disguise?
In this session, **[Ellis Pratt](https://www.linkedin.com/in/ellispratt/)**, director of **[Cherryleaf](https://www.cherryleaf.com/)**, will take a clear, no-hype look at automation in technical communication. He’ll rewind to where things stood just over a year ago, then discuss what’s changed since.
We’ll explore how automation shows up across the technical writing lifecycle, and common pitfalls that come with it.
Finally, we’ll look ahead. What does increasing automation really mean for our careers as technical writers and documentarians?
Join us for an honest, practical conversation about what to automate, what not to, and how to stay relevant as the tools keep changing.
**📣 This event is aimed at technical writers and those working in closely related roles. The discussion will focus on automation and AI specifically in the context of technical documentation and technical content workflows.**
