Datadog Dublin Meetup #1
Join us for the very first meetup of the Datadog Dublin User Group, with networking and talks from experienced practitioners!
**đ 18:00 - Arrival: Networking, Drinks & Snacks (40 min.)**
Meet and greet your peers, grab food and drink
**đ 18:40 - Introduction**
**đď¸ Speaker:** Anatoly Mikhaylov, Principal Engineer at Zendesk, Datadog Ambassador
**Description:** User group kick off followed by very successful customer story. Anatoly will share real life examples how Datadog supports Zendesk. He will share how valuable Datadog is to support multi-billion enterprise for over a decade, how it evolved and what problems it helps to solve. From an observability tool it became incident detection and prevention tool, database reliability powerhouse and it helped to shape how we deploy changes to production with confidence.
**đ 19:00 - Powering Platform Engineering through Datadog**
**đď¸ Speaker:** Marcel Drechsler, Product Owner @ andsafe
**Description:** In the rapidly changing landscape of Platform Engineering, Datadog has evolved from a monitoring tool into a comprehensive foundation for Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs). This session explores the journey of scaling observability and security into a unified platform strategy that reduces developer friction. We will dive into how Datadogâs expanding ecosystem provides the essential building blocks for modern self-service infrastructure. Attendees will learn how to leverage these integrated features to build a more resilient and transparent developer experience. Discover how to transform your Datadog instance into a strategic asset for your platformâs success.
**đ 19:40 - Pay for What You Use, Use What You Pay For: Frugal Architecture with Datadog Cloud Costs**
**đď¸ Speaker:** Apostolis Apostolidis, Lead Archirect @ Flipdish, Datadog Ambassador
**Description:**
We've all seen that Slack message. Someone senior forwards the monthly cloud bill with a single line: "Can someone take a look at this? Why has it spiked so much?" Nobody knows. Even worse, nobody owns it. And that's exactly the issue.
At Flipdish, we fixed that by bringing cloud and SaaS cost data into Datadog: the same tool our engineers already use for logs, metrics and traces. Now spend wasn't a finance report. It was a dashboard any engineer could pull up, attribute to a service, and act on like any other signal.
In this talk, I'll share what we found when we actually looked, how we embed cost awareness into architecture reviews and incident response, and why AI workloads are making this discipline urgent, where a single runaway prompt can spike your bill overnight in a way no latency alert would catch. If you can alert on a p99 spike, you can alert on a cost spike. Same signal. Different dimension.

Mountain Skills 1 Course
***Mountain Skills for Only âŹ120 / course***
Ever wanted to learn the skills you need to become a competent navigator in the Irish mountains, the UK, the Alps or beyond!
As a fully qualified mountain guide and course provider for Mountaineering Ireland and the UK, I run Mountain Skills which is a nationally accredited course and is delivered in an upland environment.
Hiking in Ireland can be challenging not only because of its wilderness, but the island has very little sign posted hiking trails in the mountains or hills. In addition to this, as being an island in the Atlantic we experience the forces of nature; storms and weather events. In other words, Ireland is probably the best place in Europe to learn a new outdoor skill like Mountain Skills.
The aim of this course is to help you learn the skills you need to get out hiking in the hills and mountains independently, safely and responsibly. You will learn how to navigate with confidence by any type of weather conditions.
A Mountain Skills course is run over 2 days in an upland environment and covers:
Map reading, map description, map scale, contour lines, land and ground features, navigation legs, simple navigation techniques, setting the map, the 5 D, estimation of direction & destination, grid reference, mountain hazards, hypothermia, mountain environment, timing, pacing, route planning, route card, emergency procedures, personal equipment, safe movement skills, river crossing and much moreâŚ
Some level of fitness is essential in taking part in this course.
Each course (MS1 / MS2) is a 20 hour syllabus which includes indoor and outdoor sessions and night navigation (MS2)
**A course includes:**
Maps and compass provided, tea breaks, course notes, 3 route cards, a free hiking day practice as part of a weekend.
**For Only âŹ100 for under 18 and students and âŹ120 for adults.**
Accommodations can be provided

đ Silent Reading & Socialising đş
## Details
The title of the event is a paradox! Read in silence and then discuss with like-minded folks! :-)
đ **How does this work?**
We will meet in the Bartley's Restaurant area from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM for silent reading and followed up by discussion. **During silent reading, you're expected to remain silent and read.** Please bring your headphones and refrain from the discussion during the first one hour in the area.
đĽ **Socialising**
After an hour, at 8:15 PM, we'll discuss and socialize about the book you're reading. We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event!
Feel free to join at any point during the event.
The event is indoors, hopefully, we can continue the tradition of the silent reading in the winter!
**đ Helpful Tips and Notes**
* Bring headphones to block out surrounding noise
* I will post a comment on the event page when I arrive to indicate where we're seated, so everyone can find us
* If you prefer to skip the silent reading, you can join directly at the bar at 8:15 PM
â ď¸**Something Happened?**
If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. It may be small but don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Looking forward to meeting you all đ

Please feel free to bring books :)

Join us every Sunday and tell a story as a group by playing a beginner-friendly roleplaying game. Every week we have 2-3 different games - you will choose which game you play on the day. All materials provided and rules are explained at the start of each game, you just need to bring your imagination.
đ **This week's facilitators:**
* âď¸ **Eoin** with *[Flail](https://gamesomnivorous.com/pages/flail)*, a fast-paced, light-hearted system designed for oneshot hex and dungeon crawls. It has a unique poker dice system and a bunch of other fun and wacky mechanics. You will be delving beneath the vibrant city of Thul-Zurein to explore its festering sewers. Rumour has it that great treasures and even greater dangers lie within!
* **đ Scott** with a Grant Howitt One-page RPG - details to follow.
* đ **Adam** with *[Lady Blackbird](https://johnharper.itch.io/lady-blackbird)*, a steampunk space opera adventure. Lady Blackbird is an Imperial noble fleeing from an arranged marriage to be with her secret lover, the pirate king Uriah Flint. To reunite with him, she has hired Cyrus Vance - a notorious smuggler - and the crew of his skyship, *The Owl*. However, *The Owl* has been captured by an Imperial cruiser. How will Lady Blackbird and the others escape? What dangers lie in their path on the way to the pirate kingâs lair?

**Abstract**
GitHub Copilot is powerful, but what if you could scale from a solo AI assistant to an entire team of specialized agents working in parallel? This session introduces Squad: an open-source framework for multi-agent orchestration that lets you define teams of AI agents with specific roles, responsibilities, and expertise.
We'll progress from Copilot basics to the Copilot CLI, explore how Agents add autonomy, and see how Instructions and Skills let you customize agent behavior. Then, the climax: a live demo where a Squad team of 3 agents (Lead, Developer, Tester) stands up and builds a working application in real-time, showcasing true multi-agent collaboration.
Whether you're new to AI or exploring how to scale your use of Copilot, this session will show you what's possible when agents work as a team.
