Journey Through Jordan
Journey Through Jordan
**Itinerary:** **Day 1: Amman Airport – Amman City Tour – Petra Hotel** Ahlan Wa Sahlan! Welcome to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan! Arrive to Amman on any flight on the morning of the trip **before 10:30am,** our representative will assist you on arrival with the immigration procedure. **Meeting time in Airport:** 12PM Begin your day with a city tour of Jordan's capital. Amman, also known as Rabbath Ammon in the Bible, is a vibrant modern city. The historical sites are situated downtown, where we will visit the Citadel, housing remnants from the Roman to the early Islamic period. We'll then visit the Archaeological Museum, wander through the Souq to experience daily life, and conclude at the 2nd-century Roman Theatre with 6000 seats. Afterward, we'll proceed to your hotel in Petra for check-in and overnight stay. **Day 2: Petra Visit** After breakfast, we will journey to the captivating red rose city of Petra, Jordan's most renowned attraction. Petra's origins date back to around the 6th century B.C., when it was established by the Nabataean Arabs, a nomadic tribe that settled in the region and established a thriving commercial empire that stretched into Syria. Accompanied by our adventure leader, we will traverse the canyon known as the Siq, leading to Petra's most iconic structure: the Treasury. Continuing along the Street of Facades, we'll explore the Royal Tombs and Pharaoh's Castle. You'll also have some free time to explore Petra at your leisure, perhaps even climbing the 800 stairs to reach the Monastery El Deir. **Day 3: Petra Hotel – Little Petra – Wadi Rum 2 H Jeep Ride – Wadi Rum Camp** In the morning, we'll embark on a journey to the otherworldly landscape of Little Petra, where we'll explore Siq el-Barid, often referred to as the "Mini Petra," featuring its own modest gorge (Siq) leading to an array of intricately carved tombs and monuments. Following our visit, we'll continue our journey southward for approximately 1.5 hours to the protected expanse of Wadi Rum, renowned as one of the most striking desert landscapes globally. Here, traditional Bedouin communities still thrive, and on a thrilling 4x4 Jeep tour, you'll traverse through canyons, across sand dunes, and encounter ancient Nabatean rock inscriptions. Upon arrival at your camp, check-in and indulge in a delightful dinner amidst the tranquil desert surroundings. **Day 4:** **Wadi Rum Camp – Aqaba Resort** After breakfast at your desert camp in Wadi Rum, we’ll depart southward on a scenic drive to Aqaba, Jordan’s vibrant Red Sea resort city. Upon arrival, you’ll check in at your seaside resort, with the remainder of the day at leisure. Take time to unwind by the beach or pool, soak up the sunshine, or explore Aqaba’s lively city atmosphere, including its shops, cafés, and waterfront promenade. For those seeking adventure, optional activities such as snorkeling, diving, or a glass-bottom boat ride can be arranged to discover the Red Sea’s spectacular coral reefs. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at your Aqaba resort. **Day 5:** **Aqaba Resort – Mt. Nebo – Madaba – Dead Sea Hotel** This morning, we journey north toward Mount Nebo, the sacred site where Prophet Moses is believed to have viewed the Promised Land before his passing. You’ll visit the ancient monastery and enjoy panoramic views over the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and parts of the Holy Land. Continuing onward, we arrive in Madaba, home to the renowned 6th-century mosaic map of Palestine located in St. George’s Church. From here, we proceed to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth. After checking in to your hotel, the afternoon is free to relax—float effortlessly in the mineral-rich waters or indulge in a natural spa experience using the famous Dead Sea mud. Dinner and overnight stay at the Dead Sea hotel. **Day 6: Dead Sea Hotel – Umm Qais – Ajloun – Jerash – Amman Hotel** After breakfast, we set out on a scenic drive to Umm Qais (ancient Gadara), one of the cities of the Decapolis founded during the era of Alexander the Great. From this hilltop site, enjoy breathtaking views over the northern Jordan Valley, the Golan Heights, and the Sea of Galilee. Our next stop is Ajloun Castle, an impressive 12th-century Islamic fortress built by the forces of Salah al-Din to defend the region against Crusader invasions. We then continue to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman provincial cities in the Middle East, where you’ll explore the grand oval forum, colonnaded streets, Nymphaeum, and the Temple of Artemis. In the evening, we return to Amman for dinner and overnight at your hotel. **Day 7: Amman Hotel – Amman Airport** At a prearranged time, you will be picked up from your hotel lobby and transferred to Amman International Airport, approximately one hour away. The Awakening | Svalbard Archipelago, Norway
The Awakening | Svalbard Archipelago, Norway
Floating in the upper reaches of the Arctic Ocean, far north of mainland Norway and only **about 1000 km from the North Pole**, the Svalbard archipelago feels like the very frontier of the inhabited world, blanketed in snow and ice for much the year. Yet in May, this frozen realm begins to soften. The long polar night is over, daylight returns in full force, and the landscape begins to wake up from winter. Snow still covers the mountains and glaciers, but on lower ground, the **tundra slowly emerges as the thaw sets in**. Bright flowers like purple saxifrage and Arctic poppies dot the otherwise stark scenery, while birds return in growing numbers, reindeer graze on new vegetation, Arctic foxes roam the valleys, and walruses rest on drifting ice. In this magical month of transformation, winter loosens its grip and summer starts edging in. If you’ve ever wanted to unleash your inner Arctic adventurer, this is the perfect time and place to do it. Unlike the deep freeze of colder months, May in Svalbard brings milder temperatures, usually between -5°C and +5°C. **Days stretch longer and longer as the midnight sun approaches**, creating excellent conditions for outdoor exploration. This doesn’t just mean speeding over frozen ground by snowmobile or dogsled. May is also one of the best periods for marine excursions, as retreating sea ice sees fjords begin to open up, making it possible to travel by **boat along glacier walls and remote coastlines**. It also provides us with even more opportunities to spot the true king of the Arctic — the polar bear — roaming along the ice edge. **To visit Svalbard in May is to enter another world:** one that is frozen yet full of life, where darkness never falls, and you’ll feel like you’ve reached the very edge of the planet. Pack your snow boots, and get ready for the spring break of a lifetime. **Let’s go!** **DAY 1 // Arrival in Longyearbyen & ATV Safari** Morning flight from Oslo to Longyearbyen, which holds the title of the northernmost town on Earth. It may be small, but this fascinating settlement is humming with life, home to residents, researchers and visitors from around the world. After check-in and a short rest, we’ll waste no time in heading out for our first adventure: exploring the rugged Arctic terrain by four-wheel ATVs. We’ll leave civilization behind as we navigate gravel tracks through wide valleys, surrounded by mountains and vast open landscapes. In the evening, we’ll venture out again, gathering in a remote outpost to enjoy a hot meal and hear stories about life in the High Arctic. As the light lingers late into the night, we’ll keep an eye out for wildlife passing by. **DAY 2 // Fjord Cruise** Today we trade wheels for water and head out onto the fjords. With the ice gradually retreating, May is a prime month for exploring Svalbard’s spectacular coastline by boat. As we sail through Isfjorden, passing icy glacier walls which plunge into the sea, keep your camera ready: seabirds circle above, seals rest on floating ice, and walruses may be spotted along the shore. As we sail through some of the most impressive scenery in the archipelago, our guide will share insights into Arctic ecology, geology, and the delicate balance of this environment. **DAY 3 // High-Speed Coastline Expedition** This day is for the thrill-seekers! We’ll board inflatable polar boats and set off along the wild western coastline of Spitsbergen, heading towards the shifting boundary where solid pack ice meets open sea. Riding low in the water, surrounded by monumental glaciers and ice formations, the scale of the environment can truly be felt here. We’ll keep our eye peeled, as this is prime territory for Arctic wildlife – polar bears often patrol here in search of seals, while seabirds gather in enormous colonies along the cliffs. **DAY 4 // Dogsledding** Our final full day connects us with one of Svalbard’s most iconic traditions: travelling with Greenland dogs. On wheels rather than snow (due to spring conditions), these strong and incredibly energetic dogs will guide us along the valleys and open terrain outside Longyearbyen. We’ll learn more about this quintessentially polar form of transportation, and feel like the Arctic explorers of old as we race through this ancient landscape. Afterwards, we’ll return to town for an afternoon at leisure for souvenir shopping, visiting the local museum, or simply soaking in the extraordinary atmosphere of the High Arctic one last time. **DAY 5 // Departure** Breakfast at the hotel, then we’ll say goodbye to this magical, frozen wilderness, heads and hearts full of memories as we head to the airport for the return flight to Oslo. \*\*\*\* **Level of difficulty:** Moderate **Activities:** ATV drive, boat and RIB cruise, husky dog sledging, sightseeing. **Accommo & meals:** 4 nights in 4 star hotel double sharing, meals excluded. **Cost: 8,350 AED** **excl. flights until APR 17th.** Past this date cost will change. **Flights (excluded from trip budget):** Dubai - Oslo Oslo – Longyearbyen: approx. 450 USD - book early to avoid price hike. **Specifically excluded:** Schengen visa, insurance, flights, meals. Join us at Thunderwing Brewing for Music Bingo — a fun twist on classic bingo where songs replace numbers and the good vibes keep flowing! 🎵 Sing along, test your music knowledge, and enjoy a relaxed evening with the group. 📍 Please RSVP to reserve your spot: Text Renee at 614-257-9389 (We need a headcount so the brewery can plan staffing and seating.) 🪑 Arrive early to grab a seat — feel free to bring a camping chair for extra seating. 🍔 Food trucks are often on site, or you’re welcome to bring your own food. 🐶 Bonus: Dogs are welcome, so bring your pup along too! Bike Ride - Pickerington Ponds to Three Creeks
Bike Ride - Pickerington Ponds to Three Creeks
**Weather permitting**, we’ll take a casual ride from Pickerington Ponds (Glacier Knoll) to Three Creeks and back. Distance is **18–25 miles**, depending on where we turn around and whether we add a side loop. Pace is around **12 mph**, but this is a fun, no‑drop ride — we can slow down as needed. Here’s the **map** showing Glacier Knoll (bike), Confluence Park (flag), and BrewDog: [https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit..](https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit..). Text or call Scott at **614‑975‑4458** if you’re coming. Columbus ski club membership not required for this event.
