May Book of the month - Hekate - The Witch
May Book of the month - Hekate - The Witch
Book Club: [Hekate](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/223296200-hekate---the-witch) the Witch by Nikita Gill Step into the shadowed spaces where myth, magic, and self-discovery intertwine. Hekate the Witch is a powerful collection of poems that channels the voice of the ancient goddess Hekate, exploring themes of transformation, independence, and feminine power. Nikita Gill gives voice to the marginalized, the mystical, and the misunderstood, weaving a tapestry of verse that is at once haunting, comforting, and profoundly empowering. Through vivid imagery and spellbinding language, Gill guides readers on a journey of introspection and resilience. The poems confront heartbreak, identity, and personal evolution, reminding us that embracing our own power often requires walking through the darkness. With Hekate as both guide and metaphor, this collection asks us to honor our intuition, our shadows, and the quiet strength that resides in the unseen. Gill’s work resonates as both a personal and collective call to awaken, offering moments of reflection, rebellion, and radical self-acceptance. Whether read slowly, aloud, or in fragments, these poems linger—like magic in the air, or footsteps in a midnight forest. Discussion Points: • Power and Autonomy: How does Gill explore self-sovereignty through the figure of Hekate? Are her poems a call to reclaim personal agency? • Darkness and Transformation: How are loss, grief, or shadowed experiences reframed as sources of strength? • Feminine Archetypes: How does the goddess Hekate function as a symbol for modern empowerment? • Poetic Form and Voice: How does Gill’s style—short verses, repetition, vivid imagery—shape the emotional impact of the work? • Spiritual and Emotional Resonance: Which poems spoke to your own journey of self-discovery, resilience, or empowerment, and why?

Board Game Night at Boyd Community Hub
Board Game Night at Boyd Community Hub
Come along for a casual board game night in the Principal’s Office room at Boyd Community Hub. I’ve booked the room from 7:00pm to 10:00pm, and we’ll meet outside the venue first at 6:45pm so everyone can find the group before we head in together. This will be a small, relaxed meetup with a maximum of 10 people. I’ll bring a mix of social, party, strategy, and light games, including: Camel Up, Catan, Codenames, Decrypto, Dixit Odyssey, Wavelength, UNO Show ’Em No Mercy, and Chess. We’ll decide what to play depending on the group size and what people feel like on the night. You don’t need to know the rules beforehand — we can explain games as we go. This is more of a relaxed social board game night than a serious competitive session. It’s totally fine if you’re new to board games, coming solo, or only know a few simple games. **Who this is for** This event is good for: * People who enjoy casual board games * Beginners and occasional players * Solo attendees who want a relaxed social evening * Anyone happy with a small-group, low-pressure vibe **Links** Meetup start point: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/7JLM3q6tyn7fepBi8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/7JLM3q6tyn7fepBi8) **Timeline** * 6:45pm – Meet outside Boyd Community Hub * 7:00pm – Head into the Principal’s Office room * 7:00pm–7:15pm – Quick introductions and choose games * 7:15pm–9:45pm – Play board games * 9:45pm–10:00pm – Pack up and return the room setup * 10:00pm – Meetup ends **Tickets / cost** No ticket required. I’ve booked the room and will cover the room hire cost, so there is no cost for attendees. Please only RSVP if you genuinely plan to attend, as the room has a small capacity. **Transport** Boyd Community Hub is in Southbank, near City Road. Please check your own public transport route before coming, especially for the trip home after 10:00pm. **Bring** * Water bottle * Any beginner-friendly board/card game you’d like to bring (optional) * A relaxed attitude — we’ll choose games based on the group **Expect** * Group size: maximum 10 people * Vibe: relaxed, social, beginner-friendly * Game style: casual, mixed experience levels * Can leave early: yes, but please message or update your RSVP if your plans change **Important notes** The room is booked from 7:00pm to 10:00pm, so we’ll meet outside at 6:45pm and enter the room at 7:00pm. Please be respectful of the venue and help keep the room tidy. We’ll need to pack up and leave the room by 10:00pm. Because this is a small-room booking, please update your RSVP if you can’t make it.

Midlife Women Rising
Come along and have a glass of bubbles or a warm herbal tea as you join an exclusive and empowering gathering created especially for us Amazing women aged 50+. Its an all inclusive gathering to connect, reflect, and be real about this powerful stage of life. Reaffirming that this phase is meant to be lived and enjoyed, not endured! This chapter often brings a mix of shifts, changing relationships, evolving identities, hormonal transitions, and a body that may feel unfamiliar at times. Many women are navigating children leaving home, redefining purpose, or simply asking, “What now?” Together, we’ll share stories, laughter, and honest conversation in a supportive and welcoming environment. This is a place to feel seen, understood, and uplifted — to explore what’s changing, what’s emerging, and what truly matters moving forward. You don’t need to have it all figured out or to silently navigate through this phase on your own. So come as you are, enjoy a glass of bubbles or if you prefer something non-alcoholic and connect with the Sisterhood. Spots are limited so don't miss out :))
