Samedi 25 avril, 16h. Je suis à Paris ce week-end, et j'avais envie de proposer quelque chose de simple : se retrouver autour d'un café pour parler de ce qui nous rassemble ici, l'écriture de roman. Pas d'atelier. Pas de programme figé. Une vraie rencontre, en vrai, sans écran entre nous. Que tu aies écrit trois pages, trois chapitres ou trois romans, tu as ta place. Que tu sois bloqué depuis des mois ou que tu viennes juste d'attraper l'idée qui te tient depuis trop longtemps, tu as ta place aussi. On parlera personnages, intrigue, doutes, premières phrases qu'on n'arrive pas à poser. Ou on parlera de tout autre chose — c'est aussi ça, les bonnes rencontres. À l’occasion de la parution de *La fin d’un monde*, nous sommes heureux de vous accueillir pour une après-midi rencontre avec Pierre Haski. Au cours d’un échange, Pierre Haski reviendra non seulement sur les transformations profondes des équilibres géopolitiques, mais aussi sur ses expériences personnelles de terrain. Derrière ce constat, se dessine une question essentielle : quel monde sommes-nous en train de construire ? — « Je suis né avec la décolonisation de l’Afrique que j’ai sillonnée de long en large ; j’ai grandi avec la guerre froide, que j’ai vue disparaître au centre de l’Europe ; j’ai été témoin de l’essor inexorable, majeur, de la Chine; j’ai parcouru les terres meurtries du Proche-Orient ; et je tente chaque matin, depuis huit ans, d’analyser au micro de France Inter la bascule du monde. Cela fait un demi-siècle que j’accompagne, en tant que journaliste – reporter, correspondant ou éditorialiste – et pour le meilleur comme le pire, les transformations de notre planète. Or ce monde est devenu plus difficile à “lire”, plus déroutant, plus inquiétant également. Le monde d’aujourd’hui n’est déjà plus celui d’hier. Celui de demain sera-t-il celui des rapports de force et des systèmes autoritaires, ou aurons-nous lasagesse d’en bâtir un nouveau, plus équitable et ouvert ? »

Join us for a relaxed silent-reading session in a warm and welcoming café/bar. Bring your current read (or grab a new one!), settle in with a drink or snack, and enjoy an hour or two of calm, focused reading alongside fellow book lovers. 📖 No pressure, no agenda—just a peaceful moment to unwind, read, and maybe chat a little afterward. 😊 This group/event is an english-speaking one ( although the books don't have to be). We'll try to find a cozy and comfortable nook to settle into but we can't guarantee total silence. So if you are easily distracted by ambient noise, we recommend you bring a pair of noise canceling headphones 🎧😌 PS: The current café that hosts us every Saturday afternoon, requires a 5€ drink minimum

They will give you a little wooden knick-knack with the wifi codes and a number that they use to determine the cost based on time spent (it's 3,80 € per hour, paid at the end). ***Now, about Ready-Set-Write! ..*.** Ready Set Write! is a regular meeting of motivated writers who grab a beverage, then shut up and write. ***What it is:*** An opportunity for writers to get together and do short, intense bursts of writing. We write for 45-ish minutes, take a 15 minute break, rinse & repeat. ***What it is NOT:*** neither a forum for critiquing each other's work, nor shameless self-promoting your projects or groups. Lyric writing weekly group practice. A few object writing rounds to start, get our reps in — a favorite from the canon, Write Better Lyrics by P. Pattinson.* Followed by other exercises. I adapt the program depending on who shows up. *Object writing : a noun picked through a random word generator, a 10 min timer to delve into our sensory imagination and free-flow with this prompt. We then take turn sharing.

Pour cet IMPROMPTU, Ekaterina nous invite à visiter "La Fosse aux filles" d' Alexandre Kouprine et "La Maison Tellier" de Guy de Maupassant. Dans La Fosse aux filles, Alexandre Kouprine propose un tableau psychologique d’une grande dureté. Il ne cherche aucune provocation, mais s’attache à montrer la lente déshumanisation des femmes enfermées dans ce système, tout en explorant la banalité du mal, la résignation subie et l’érosion progressive de toute illusion. Le regard est empathique, grave, parfois étouffant, et laisse peu de place à l’échappatoire. À l’inverse, La Maison Tellier de Guy de Maupassant adopte un ton plus léger, parfois quasi burlesque, sans pour autant être naïf. Par le biais de l’ironie et du décalage, Maupassant révèle l’hypocrisie de la bourgeoisie provinciale et souligne à quel point la maison close, loin d’être un scandale isolé, est parfaitement intégrée à l’ordre social. Derrière le sourire, la critique est fine et profondément mordante. **Présentation d'auteurs** Ekaterina fera une courte présentation d'Alexandre Kouprine et Claude nous parlera de Maupassant afin de mieux éclairer/contextualiser les deux oeuvres. **Inscription** Ne vous inscrivez, s’il vous plaît, que si vous êtes sûr(e) de pouvoir lire au moins une des deux œuvres d'ici là et d'être présent(e) le jour J. Ce dimanche nous vous proposons une belle après midi de dessin au Canal Saint Martin. Nous nous retrouverons près du canal près du café Chez Prune à 14h30. Apportez votre matériel de dessin préféré, votre carnet de croquis et un tabouret, si vous en avez un. Nous nous retrouverons au même endroit à 17h00 pour partager quelques bons moments et nos carnets de croquis. Tous niveaux bienvenus. This Sunday we propose a lovely afternoon of sketching at the Canal Saint Martin. We will meet at the Canal Saint Martin, close to the cafè Chez Prune à 14:30. Bring your favourite drawing materials, your sketchbook and a stool if you have one. We will meet again at 17:00 in the same place to share some good times and our sketchbooks at a cafe. All levels welcome.

Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
