Tue. Cafe Writing/Sharing Session
We are writers of all levels – beginners to published.
And we meet at STARBUCK at IFC (P2 Shop2097-2098, International Finance Centre), Central for fun writing and sharing sessions!
We all write a one-sentence prompt, then each select one at random. We write something based on the prompt for 45 minutes, after which, we share our work with each other and discuss as desired. Of course, sharing is optional but encouraged. (Feedback is always polite and respectful.)
Alternatively, you can bring your own project(s) to work on in the company of fellow writers (published and yet-to-be published). You can share your project(s), too, if you want.
It's all about creativity and productivity in a supportive environment!
Any questions, just reach out to our organizers through Meetup.

Oceanography & Geology
**Note: New Venue above Elements Mall! Flaming Frangos, R009, Civic Square Elements mall, 1 Austin Rd W, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong**
What is included in the interdisciplinary science of oceanography? How does plate tectonic shape the ocean and how can we even discover geological mechanisms?
This month at Hong Kong Skeptics in the Pub we are lucky to have Markus Rummel who is a marine biologist with a background in biotechnology (MSc.), and Lucia Hu is a research student at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, whose research focuses on harnessing the natural filtration power of marine sponges to identify reef fish species.
They will give us an overview presentations on concepts of oceanography, illustrated with colorful graphics and videos, Including the physical, chemical and biological mechanisms that shape the environment, life and climate in the ocean as well as the terrestrial ecosystem.
This should be an exciting and educational event, so don't miss it!
Please RSVP so we can plan numbers with the venue.

Concordia
Merchants build and trade throughout the Roman Empire to please the Gods.
Difficulty: Medium
Depending on the number of players and experience I'll choose a suitable map and/or expansion.
**PLEASE keep an eye on your messages as I may need to message you. You will need to reply within 24 hours or potentially lose your place.**
Two thousand years ago, the Roman Empire ruled the lands around the Mediterranean Sea. With peace at the borders, harmony inside the provinces, uniform law, and a common currency, the economy thrived and gave rise to mighty Roman dynasties as they expanded throughout the numerous cities. Guide one of these dynasties and send colonists to the remote realms of the Empire; develop your trade network; and appease the ancient gods for their favor — all to gain the chance to emerge victorious!
Concordia is a peaceful, strategy game of economic development in Roman times for 2-5 players aged 13 and up. Instead of looking to the luck of dice or cards, players must rely on their strategic abilities. Be sure to watch your rivals to determine which goals they are pursuing and where you can outpace them! In the game, colonists are sent out from Rome to settle down in cities that produce bricks, food, tools, wine, and cloth. Each player starts with an identical set of playing cards and acquires more cards during the game. These cards serve two purposes:
* They allow a player to choose actions during the game.
* They are worth victory points (VPs) at the end of the game.
Concordia is a strategy game that requires advanced planning and consideration of your opponent's moves. Every game is different, not only because of the sequence of new cards on sale but also due to the modular layout of cities. (One side of the game board shows the entire Roman Empire with 30 cities for 3-5 players, while the other shows Roman Italy with 25 cities for 2-4 players.) When all cards have been sold or after the first player builds their 15th house, the game ends. The player with the most VPs from the gods (Jupiter, Saturnus, Mercurius, Minerva, Vesta, etc.) wins the game.
(Description from BoardGameGeek)
Price: $100
First-timers, or people I haven't met before, will be asked to confirm their booking. I'll message you with details after your RSVP. **You need to reply within 24 hours to keep your spot.**
No outside food is allowed at the venue. It is also a shoes-off venue.
No-show and lateness: anyone not showing up, dropping out on the day or late the night before or being late a number of times without good reason may be blacklisted from my future games.

Informal Filmmakers Meetup & Drinks
We're back! We currently meet at Forever Lounge in Causeway Bay (near Tin Hau MTR station) roughly once a month. The emphasis of our gatherings is always on the creative, artistic, and collaborative aspects of filmmaking.
Typically, we begin with informal introductions, where you will have the opportunity to talk about yourself and your background, experiences and/or goals.
Your host Ben will then introduce a new topic (this month's presentation is on screenplay format and story structure), during which questions and comments are always encouraged.
We will then wrap up by discussing any projects we are working on or would like to get started.
All are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Questions and opinions are always encouraged. If you have any materials (scripts, showreels, raw/edited footage, etc.) that you would like to share, please feel free to bring it along, but all you will need is enthusiasm and confidence!
Forever Lounge is near Tin Hau MTR station (exit A1), at 176-178 Causeway Road, Causeway Bay 銅鑼灣銅鑼灣道176-178號地舖

WHAT IS A TABLETOP RPG?
It's a game in which you never know where the next stop will be, because it’s all down to the decisions you and your fellow players make. Usually one person is the Game Master (or "GM"). Everyone else will be players, taking the role of the characters in the game. The players get to say what their characters say, think, and do. The GM describes everything else in the world.
Then... we play to find out what happens. The game is a conversation: I say something, then you reply, maybe someone else chimes in. We talk about what's happening to the characters we imagine and the world around them. We also talk about the rules, which help us decide what happens next if the next step is in doubt. The rules differ from game to game: some use dice to shape the story, others use cards or something else. It's always a conversation, though.
(Not OutLoud) Peel Street Poetry Open Mic
Open mic poetry night at the Social Room with a very special guest MC. One of the original founders of PSP, Nash, will be hosting the night.
Come, listen or read, your own or others' poetry —the choice is yours.
With two rounds, the first being a round-the-room chance to read, the second after a break, where it's a free-for-all, where anyone can step up and take the mic, love the mic, BE the mic.
**Free entry and 2-4-1 drinks until 9pm!**

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

11:10 - chat / take off / keep writing.

See you at The Café on Saturday!
Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
**Our July novel is: *Listen for the Lie* by Amy Tintera**
**This month’s novel was named one of the best books of 2024. It’s a domestic thriller with crime, mystery, and murder, told from women’s perspectives. The story includes a detective, an unreliable narrator, and plenty of suspense. The book is 352 pages in print and 9 hours and 18 minutes on audiobook.**
What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.
But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen.
Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!
