šŸ“š Books & Social šŸø
šŸ“š Books & Social šŸø
šŸ“šReading books and discussing them are two distinct experiences! Conversations about books and sharing insights help us better appreciate literature and enrich our lives. Let's grab a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and discuss books we're currently reading or have recently enjoyed—whether poetry, fiction, or non-fiction. Bring your physical book or e-reader. There's no formal structure or agenda—just books and good conversation.šŸ’¬ It's a perfect place to get book recommendations and rediscover your reading momentum if you've hit a slump. We welcome readers of all backgrounds and interests! āš ļø**Something Happened?** If something unpleasant happened to you, it may happen to others. Even if it seems minor, don't hesitate to reach out to me. šŸ” **How to find us?** * When I reach the venue, I'll leave a comment in the meetup where the group is seated. Normally, the booking is in my name, so you can ask the staff for the group. * If you're unable to find us, leave a comment in the meetup page. I'll be able to guide you. We highly encourage you to move between tables and strike up conversations with fellow book lovers. These discussions about literature and reading recommendations are often the highlight of the event! As an organizer, I'm always looking for feedback about the event and suggestions for new events, so feel free to suggest ideas to me. šŸ’” I look forward to seeing you all! 😊
The Whiteheaded Boy (Abbey Theatre)
The Whiteheaded Boy (Abbey Theatre)
Plan to have a pre-show drink at the Abbey Theatre bar from 6.45, if anyone feels like joining. Please buy your own ticket here: [https://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats-on/the-whiteheaded-boy/ ](https://www.abbeytheatre.ie/whats-on/the-whiteheaded-boy/ ) About the play: A top-of-the-shelf comedy – one of the sharpest in the Abbey’s history" The Sunday Independent **ā€œEvery Mammy has her favouriteā€¦ā€** The table is set for Denis, arriving home from Dublin where he’s studying Medicine at Trinity College – a source of enormous pride for his besotted mother and of great resentment to his five other siblings. But when word comes that he may have failed his exams *again*, the final straw breaks. Threats of deportation, lawsuits, bribes and counter-bribes escalate, as the family twist the fate of their whiteheaded boy to suit themselves. A smash hit when it premiered at the Abbey Theatre 110 years ago, Lennox Robinson’s **The Whiteheaded Boy** is a raucous, high-stakes tug-of-war between those who will do anything to keep their standing in the town and those who just want to live their lives as they please. Award-winning director **Annie Ryan** re-imagines this bawdy and bold Irish classic with a contemporary eye and a sharp feminist wink to the past. Notions abound! You can read the former Head of Special Projects at the National Archives of Ireland, Catriona Crowe’s take on the play and its modern relevance [here](https://www.rte.ie/culture/2026/0615/1577953-the-whiteheaded-boy-how-a-110-year-old-play-speaks-to-today/). The Assistant Costume Design role is made possible by the Abbey Theatre’s partnership with the Irish Society of Performance Designers through their Assistant Designer Programme, funded by the Arts Council.

Figure Painting in Oils // A 3 Day Workshop with Artist Nicholas Robinson
Figure Painting in Oils // A 3 Day Workshop with Artist Nicholas Robinson
## Figure Painting in Oils // A 3 Day Workshop with Artist Nicholas Robinson // Friday July 3 - Sunday July 5 **BOOK HERE - https://www.tickettailor.com/events/skillsets/2179557** Painting the figure has always been a staple exercise in learning the craft of oil painting, and this 3 day workshop covers the core skills required. This class is ideal for those looking to start their exploration into the art of Figure Painting, or for the more experienced artist who wants to improve their fundamentals. Nick Robinson (Florence Academy prize winner 2012 & 2013, Zurich Portrait Prize Finalist 2019 & 2021) will instruct in the visual method: translating what we observe from life into oil painting on the canvas. We will explore the materials involved, some theory and preparation for the model. The rest of the session will be comprised of working from the nude in one single-pose painting over the 3 days. By the completion of the course participants will have a clear understanding of the techniques and steps involved in painting the figure, as well as increased levels of observational skill. No prior experience is necessary, only a strong interest in painting from life. **Course Fee: €350** \* Some materials will be provided, though a small materials list will be sent to each participant. ***Your Tutor:*** Nicholas is a Florence Academy of Art prize winner and graduate. Nicholas finished his post-graduate studies at Ireland’s National College of Art & Design (NCAD) in 2009, having previously graduated from the Crawford College of Art & Design, Cork. He was introduced to the American ateliers in Florence, in which students study exclusively from life, by the Irish painter Gearoid Hayes. Subsequently Nicholas quit his teaching career and attended the Florence Academy of Art, Sweden under the tutelage of the Swedish painter Joakim Ericsson. Nicholas received a pair of drawing awards during his time at the school in Sweden and returned to Ireland in 2013. He is now exhibiting nationally, and works and teaches out of in his studio in Wicklow.

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times. Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have. Happy writing!
