Let’s hit the road and make a day of it! We’re heading to Doors Open London for a fun, curiosity-fuelled adventure exploring buildings and spaces that are usually closed to the public.

A little context:
Nick has been a Doors Open Toronto volunteer for over two decades (yep, a true Doors Open nerd in the best way 😄) and genuinely loves checking out how other cities do it. London is packed with history, beautiful architecture, and some surprising hidden gems—perfect for a Doors Open day trip.

### 🏛️ What is Doors Open?

If you’ve never been before, Doors Open is an annual, free architectural and cultural event where cities open the doors to historic, cultural, and behind-the-scenes spaces. Think heritage buildings, churches, civic spaces, theatres, old industrial sites, and more—often with tours, guides, or special access you wouldn’t normally get.

### 🗓️ The Plan

Departure: 8:00 AM from just outside Christie Station
*NOTE - Subway doesn't start until 8AM on Sunday so plan accordingly
*** Transportation: Rental minivan or SUV
** Destination: Doors Open London
*** Lunch stop: Chuck’s Roadhouse
*** Return to Toronto: Around 6:30 PM, traffic depending

• Lunch will be at Chuck’s Roadhouse
  *You are responsible for your own food and drink purchases

$60 round-trip

This event runs rain or shine, so please dress appropriately for the weather. The good news is that we’ll be inside most of the time, but there will still be some walking between locations.

A Hidden Urban Trail, Easy Walking & A Relaxing Summer Sunday
Looking for an easy way to get outside after work?

Join us for a summer walk along the York Beltline Trail, one of Toronto's hidden green corridors.

Built on the route of the historic Belt Line Railway, this peaceful trail offers a surprising escape from the city, with mature trees, birdsong, and plenty of shade—all just steps from the subway.
This is an easy, mostly flat walk with no major hills, making it perfect for anyone who wants to stretch their legs, enjoy some fresh air, and meet new people.

After our walk, we'll head over to The Bull: A Firkin Pub for brunch and a chance to relax, chat, and get to know one another. After all, the walk is just the beginning—the conversations afterward are where friendships often start.

## 🚶‍♂️ What We'll Do

We'll spend about 90 minutes walking the York Beltline Trail at a comfortable social pace.
Along the way we'll enjoy one of Toronto's lesser-known walking trails, share some conversation, and unwind after the workday.

When we finish, anyone who would like to is welcome to join us for brunch at The Bull: A Firkin Pub. You're also welcome to head home after the walk if you prefer.

## ☀️ Weather & Expectations

This walk happens rain or shine unless severe weather makes it unsafe.
The trail is mostly flat and suitable for most fitness levels. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water if it's a warm evening.

This is a social walk, not a guided historical tour. I'll share a little history about the Beltline along the way, but the focus is on enjoying the evening together.

### Fire, Food, Music & One Last Summer Night by the Lake

Summer has to end eventually — so why not send it off properly?
Join us on Toronto Island for an evening bonfire at Olympic Island as we say goodbye to summer and welcome the beginning of fall.
We’ll take the ferry across together, settle in by the fire, enjoy some food and music, roast marshmallows, and spend the evening relaxing by the water with the Toronto skyline in the background.

This isn't a walk.
It isn't a tour.

It's a social evening designed to give us time to actually sit around, talk, laugh, eat, and connect with one another.
Whether you've been coming to the group for years or this is your first event, this is a chance to slow down and enjoy the people around you.

## 🔥 THE PLAN

We'll meet at the ferry terminal and take the ferry together to Toronto Island.
Once we arrive, we'll make our way over to Olympic Island, where our fire pit will be waiting.

We'll have:
🔥 A bonfire
🌭 Hot dogs — including vegetarian options
🍡 Marshmallows for roasting
🎶 Music
🌆 Beautiful views of the Toronto skyline
🗣️ Plenty of time to sit, talk and socialize
The goal is simple:
Come for the fire.

## 🚢 FERRY INFORMATION — PLEASE READ

The fall ferry schedule has not been released yet, so the ferry departure and return times listed below are subject to change.
I will update the event as soon as the official fall schedule is available.

### Current tentative schedule:

📍 Meetup: 5:00 PM
🚢 Ferry: Approximately 5:20 PM
🔥 Bonfire: Olympic Island
🚢 Return ferry: Approximately 9:00 PM

Please do not make other plans around these ferry times until the fall schedule has been confirmed.

📍 Inside the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal, near the bathrooms
You must enter the ferry terminal and have your ferry ticket scanned before entering the waiting area.
Once you're inside the terminal, head toward the bathrooms.

The ferry will not wait for us, and I will not be able to hold up the group while waiting for late arrivals.

This event is planned as an outdoor bonfire and will happen in most weather conditions.
If severe weather or unsafe conditions make the event impossible, the event may be cancelled or rescheduled.

This is a social event.
The bonfire is really just the container.
The important part is what happens around it — sitting together, talking to someone you've never met, catching up with people you already know, sharing food, laughing, and maybe making a connection that continues long after the fire goes out.
