Algonquin Park Backcountry Canoe Trip: Magnetawan Loop (4 Days / 3 Nights)

Dates: July 31 – August 3, 2026
Start/End Location: Algonquin Park, Magnetawan Lake Access Point (#3)
Total Distance: ~35 km (30 km paddling, 5.25 km portaging)
Experience Level: Intermediate/Advanced. You must be capable of a 2.4 km portage while carrying a canoe and/or full pack. Expect full paddling days with some longer carries — this is not a beginner trip.
Costs & Payment:
- Permit: $33 + HST ($11/night) per person for the backcountry permit.
- Parking: Total cost for parking fees will be split equally.
- Deposit: An upfront e-transfer is required to secure your spot on the permit. Your RSVP is not confirmed until payment is received.

- Day 1 (July 31): Magnetawan AP to Queer Lake
Total Distance: 12.5 km | Portages: 130m, 290m, 450m, 180m - Day 2 (August 1): Queer Lake to Daisy Lake
Total Distance: 10.5 km | Portages: 2,435m, 450m, 135m - Day 3 (August 2): Daisy Lake to Ralph Bice Lake
Total Distance: 6.7 km | Portages: 420m, 50m, 290m - Day 4 (August 3): Ralph Bice Lake to Magnetawan AP
Total Distance: 5.4 km | Portages: 290m, 130m

- Self-Reliance: This is not a guided tour. You are fully responsible for your own safety, navigation, preparation, and gear (canoe, paddle, PFD, tent, sleeping system, food, and water filtration).
- Communication: Cell service is unreliable/non-existent along this route.
- Coordination: Coordinate in the event chat to share tandem canoes, carpooling, and rental costs.
