About us
Trail Hiking Australia (TAS) is a hiking group for people who enjoy getting outdoors and exploring Tasmania's trails in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
The group focuses on building a supportive community that encourages people of all experience levels to enjoy hiking with confidence. Our events aim to make Australia’s wild places more accessible while promoting good preparation, shared responsibility, and respect for the outdoors.
We host a wide range of activities. Some hikes are suited to moderate and experienced walkers, while others are slower paced on easier terrain and may include urban walks. Everyone is welcome, and there is no expectation that you must be an experienced hiker to join.
To help members prepare for hiking and build outdoor skills, Trail Hiking Australia also provides a large library of practical articles and detailed trail information, with over 3,800 documented trails available at👉 https://www.trailhiking.com.au
Important: When setting up your Meetup profile, please ensure your profile photo clearly shows your face. This is a requirement for participating in group hikes. Please also read our code of conduct for attending hikes at👉 https://www.trailhiking.com.au/attending-hikes/
We look forward to seeing you out on the trail.
This group is proudly provided by Darren Edwards, founder of Trail Hiking Australia.

From Waterworks Reserve we will walk up to Sixpence Cave then make our way to McDermott's Saddle, a lovely spot for a break (we'll need one - the majority of our hike to this point is uphill) . 😒 We then pick up Pipeline Track to Fern Tree and onto Silver Falls. The Pipeline Track up towards Fern Tree is beautiful walking. Lots of ferns, mossy rocks plus water engineering architecture from bygone days. Toilets available at Fern Tree.Upon returning to Fern Tree we retrace our steps down the Pipeline and do a short side track to Longhill Gully Heritage site. This track links back up to Pipeline Track and then it's onto Gentle Annie Falls.
Gentle Annie Falls Track has recently been upgraded and is now a 2km family friendly walk/bike track. It contains many, many, many switchbacks. 😁Trackwork is amazing.A lap of the Waterworks Resevoirs completes our adventure.
