THE SPRINGS, RED PAINT TRACK LOOP, kunanyi/MT WELLINGTON
Details
If you don't like boulder hopping, stay away from this one!
These tracks are not on today's maps. Red Paint Track 1 and 2 are regularly hiked by walking clubs. I believe these tracks were created in the early 1900s and disappeared from Mt Wellington maps in the 1970s. We're off on another adventure on old historic trails.

Description of hike
Starting from the Lower Springs Carpark this hike heads up the Pinnacle Track and then follows the Organ Pipes Track. We leave the Organ Pipes track and get on the Red Paint Tracks up to the mountain summit via a rocky, bouldery slope. It is slow going negotiating the rocks/boulders. There are two Red Paint Tracks. We start on RPT1 and head to the left when a junction is reached. We are now on RPT 2 - looking out for 2 dots. This rough route takes us along the top of the Organ Pipes and we summit near the observation building. Fantastic views of Hobart.
We can then decide to return to cars by Zig Zag Track or take the longer route of South Wellington and Icehouse Tracks.
