The Long Pond Ironworks hike is a 4.5-mile out-and-back hike with 850’ of elevation up and down. It's a moderate hike that we'll take at a leisurely pace.
Long Pond Ironworks State Park is one of the lesser-known NJ state parks which is why its interesting features and incredible views go under the radar. Within the park lies the remnants of a formerly industrious ironworking community and is still there for us to see its old stone walls, buildings, furnaces, and waterwheels.
From the parking area, we'll spend some time touring the now abandoned community of Long Pond including the furnace area, water wheels, old manager's house, and other stone remnants. We'll then cross the waterway between Greenwood Lake and the Monksville Reservoir to head up to the Big Beech Mountain views. We will return the way we came on this out-and-back hike allowing us to revisit any spots we missed in Long Pond and chat about some hiking basics and safety.
The parking and hike details are emailed after registration.
