Industry x Education: Tackling Young People Becoming NEET in partnership with Ahead Partnership
Description
Every young person deserves the chance to see a future for themselves. Yet increasing numbers of young people are becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) , often because they lack access to opportunities, professional networks, role models or clear pathways into work.
This event will bring together employers from the digital and technology sector, schools, colleges, careers professionals, youth support organisations and young people themselves to explore how we can work together to address this challenge.
Through open discussion, shared experiences and practical collaboration, we will examine how earlier and more meaningful engagement between industry and education can help young people stay motivated, build confidence and access opportunities that may otherwise feel out of reach.
You will gain insight into the barriers facing young people today, hear first-hand experiences from those who have benefited from employer support, and contribute ideas that can lead to real action across the region.
Why This Matters
The digital and technology sector continues to grow and offers a wide range of rewarding careers, many of which do not require a traditional route into employment. However, many young people remain unaware of these opportunities or struggle to see how their skills, interests and aspirations connect to them.
Employers have an important role to play. Activities such as work experience placements, mentoring, workplace visits, career talks, skills workshops and industry-led projects can have a significant impact on a young person's confidence, aspirations and future choices.
Key Themes
Together we will explore:
Why some young people disengage from education, training or career pathways.
The role employers can play in building confidence, aspiration and career awareness.
