About us
Do you drive? Do you want to go for a 20km, 8 hour hike? Do you enjoy waking up at 6am? If you answered NO to any of these questions, this group is for you!
The focus of this hiking group will be intermediate, transit accessible hikes. Why? Because I do not drive, I don't want to wake up at the crack of dawn, and I am not advanced enough to do a difficult hike but I want something more than a flat walk.
🚌 All events will be TRANSIT ACCESSIBLE! 🚌
Drivers are of course welcome to join the group, as well as drive to the hikes, but I wanted to create a group that allows non-drivers a chance to go hiking. Because the focus on this group is TRANSIT ACCESSIBLE hikes, parking availability will not be taken into consideration. If you choose to drive to the hike, you are responsible for ensuring that you can find parking and be ready at the beginning of the posted time. I will base the start time of the hikes on the bus schedule and my desire to not wake up at 6am.
👉 The pace of the hikes will be MODERATE: we will walk faster on flat terrain and slower while going up inclines, and take breaks as needed. Beginners are welcome to join the group, but note that this group is for intermediate hikers. While we don't leave people behind, for the enjoyment of everyone, we do need to go at a moderate pace.
❗️Please fully read event descriptions and do not overestimate your ability. If you have never hiked before, it is best to start off on a walk, progressing to longer walks, and then shorter, easier hikes. The hikes will mostly be intermediate hikes for people with experience, usually around 3 to 5 hours with some incline. But there will also be walks and easier/shorter hikes so that people can gain experience and ability.
Group size and waitlists:
- For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, I keep group sizes quite small, typically 15 or fewer members per hike. This means that unfortunately there are sometimes waitlists.
- Waitlists are not first come first served. Priority is given to regulars, and people who no show or who frequently cancel (particularly last minute) will have the last priority to be removed from a waitlist. It is up to the event organizer's discretion about the number of people and who attends events.
Other things to note:
- 🚫🐶 All hikes will be dog-free. No dogs will be permitted on the hikes. 🚫🐶
- People who no-show or who cancel at the last minute may be removed from the group.
- If you do not have a photo showing your face, you will not be permitted to join the group.
- Please try your best to answer the questions. I am asking to try and get to know you, and gauge your hiking ability!
- People who are rude or complain about the rules will be removed. If you don't like the way the group is organized, you are welcome to start your own group. The cost is $300US per year, plus tax.
💵 Note that there is no membership fee for this group. However, Meetup fees for the organizers have become very expensive, so if you enjoy this group, donations are always welcome to keep the group going. Donations are not mandatory, and you can choose to donate as much, or as little, as you wish (no judgment!).
