** HISTORIC PIPELINE/ HERITAGE TRAIL (PART 3) - BT TIMAH > WOODLANDS CAUSEWAY **

Details
Hi members,
This is the Final Part of our PIPELINE TRAIL (Part 3) exploring the history and heritage, sights & sounds of this historic pipeline from the City Centre (Part 1) to Bt Timah (Part 2) and now from Bt Timah to the Woodlands/ JB Causeway (Part 3).
Unlike the usual pipeline hikes that you may have done before, this 3 part hike takes you on a walk down memory lane tracing the history of this symbolic and significant pipeline from Malaysia to Singapore that has oftentimes been the talk and sometimes 'hot topic' between our two countries.
This historic 101-year-old Central Pipeline Reserve running from Gunung Pulai in Johor to the Old Woodlands Causeway to Chinatown was used to convey water all the way to Pearl Hill Reservoir serving our metropolis city centre.
To make this hike interesting and come alive, we'll be showing you some historic buildings, pre-war shophouses, old towns, black & white colonial houses and heritage places alongside this pipeline trail. (See Photos below)
We'll be tracing this pipeline in 3 parts to enjoy the history, heritage and scenic places from our bustling city centre ie. from South to North all the way to the Woodlands Causeway.
Part 1 of this historic pipeline trail (completed!) starts from our colorful Chinatown Heritage Centre to Queenstown where I'll be showing you the food, sights & sounds of this vibrant areas including the beautiful street art & murals along the way depicting the life and times of life in Singapore during those good old days. We'll also be showing you the historic site of the majestic Pearl Hill 'fortress' reservoir unknown to many though, as well as the symbolic place where our well known forefather figure of Mr Tan Tock Seng was laid to rest.
Part 2 from Queenstown to Bt. Timah (completed!), you will be taken to the Tanglin/ Queenstown Heritage trail, some old heritage trees & buildings, a 1960's mosque, hidden British colonial houses, a breath-taking lookout point to the Southern Islands, hidden bunkers, canals, secret trails, nostalgic places, pipelines etc. where I'll be sharing a little history and heritage here & there based on my knowledge and memory of my childhood having walked these places some 40 - 50 years ago to add color to our hike unlike the original pipeline trail.
And now Part 3 from Bt. Timah (Sixth Ave Mrt Station) all the way to the JB/Woodlands Causeway, you will be shown some old nostalgic places, hidden trails, tunnels, reservoirs, man-made waterfalls, canopy forests, an abandoned creepy house, huge long pipelines as well as a breathtaking scenic lookout view of Johor and the Straits. (Note that a number of these pipes have been fenced up by NParks/ SLA for safety reasons although you may still be able to view and take photos of these pipes from the fence, openings or at some vantage lookout points.
Unlike Part 1 & 2, please note that this 3rd Part Pipeline Hike is about 14km and not a PCN leisure walk as we will be hiking through trails, undulating terrains, forests, drains, mud etc. all done at a brisk pace. As such, it may not be suitable for everyone as you need to be fit, healthy and able to keep up with the group. Your reward however will be the breathtaking view of the 800m long pipeline from Woodlands to Johor at the end of this hike before we disperse for drinks & lunch (optional)
So if you're ready for a challenge, and wish to find out more about our water history and the sights & sounds of the beautiful heritage places along this route, RSVP now.
