Hi there!

This group is for people who love to connect while traveling.
This first sentence basically sums it up. 🙂

Most of our hikes and outings will be based in Belgium, for the time being. I organize day events—mostly in or around nature—hoping that those attending might book a B&B for the night before or after. The goal is to turn a simple hike into a shared weekend experience for anyone who feels like it. It’s an open invitation to linger longer and get to know the group, not a mandatory requirement to be clear—this is a travel group, not a religious cult 🙂

One request: contrary to what seems to be the "new normal" on social platforms, please only register for an event if you truly intend to show up. I will check in with you beforehand. Why? Because the clue is in the name: people on Meetup want to actually meet up. It’s a matter of courtesy to the others that you stick to your engagement. Just imagine—someone might be registering because they want to meet you!
Sticking to your word also builds character, but that’s a story for another time...

So, lace up your boots, pack a sandwich, come for the views and stay for the company!

Riverside Wanderlust: Upstream Dinant

You are looking to trade the city noise and usual train-train-quotidien for the sound of the Meuse? This is the day for it!

We are heading out for a day walk that is all about enjoying the landscape and the company of a great group.

The journey: the route from Dinant to Waulsort is one of the most scenic stretches of the Haute-Meuse—lots of green, impressive cliffs, and the river that seems to carry a specific kind of quiet energy. Following the water’s edge, passing the yacht club of Anseremme, and then diving deeper into the lush greenery that defines the valley. Partially asphalted, but also uneven trails and meadows with cows.

We’ll stop for a picnic break amidst the trees, at the river bank. Birdsong over notifications!

At the end, we cross the river Meuse with the Waulsort Ferry: it is a traditional, man-pulled ferry (passeur d’eau) that has been crossing these waters for generations. It’s a slow, tactile, and slightly magical way to reach the other side. If it’s the same guy than previous years, you’ll see a Brad Pitt look-alike (in his early years and Wallonia style 😊)

From there, all options are on the table. You want to call an Uber to get back asap to Dinant, wait for the bus, have a drink and/or meal at the bar/restaurant,... Up to you!

Journey details

When: Saturday, 9 May | Meeting at 11:00 AM

Meeting Point: Dinant. (meeting point will be shared with the confirmed participants)

The Route: Dinant → Anseremme → Waulsort Ferry crossing, about 12km, mostly walking away from any traffic.

Duration: please consider this a day excursion, but approx. 5 hours (including our 1-2 hour picnic, a bit depending on the weather (warmer = more relaxed ☺️))

The Return: you can take the bus back from Waulsort to Dinant (adventurous spirit required, as we'll be operating on "valley time"). There is a bar and restaurant in Waulsort too where we can crash.

What to bring?

A Picnic: pack something delicious to enjoy during our riverside break.

Sturdy Shoes: we’ll be on natural paths, so leave the city shoes at home.
