- Natural Costa Rica by Windstar Cruise LineEstación de Puerto Caldera, Esparza, PU
Lush jungle, full of wildlife, kissed by the sun and blessed with breathtaking scenery from January 6 – 13, 2024. Costa Rica means "rich coast” in Spanish and it will not disappoint. David and I lived in Costa Rica for 11 years and we miss it terribly. Seeing 4 ports by small sailing yacht is the ultimate in experiencing the history, flora and fauna with local Naturalists! A bonus is the Nicaraguan fishing village of San Juan del Sur and Corinto.
We will begin our cruise in the small town of Puerto Caldera, about 1.5 hours from the capital city of San Jose. You will have the option to spend a couple of pre cruise nights in the Arenal Volcano area up in the mountains, pre cruise. Inquire about this option if interested. Costa Rica is home to crocodiles, over 400 species of birds, sloths and 4 species of monkeys. You will see these animals in the wild, no where else in the world will you experience such biodiversity. Enjoy swimming in Playa Flamingo, considered one of Central America’s most beautiful beaches with pristine blue water, exotic marine life, and some of the best deep sea fishing to be found. Witness the lovely bay of San Juan del Sur which is peppered with small, private yachts, and commercial fishing boats. Sign up for a shore excursion and go white water rafting, ziplining, a nature hike or visit a coffee farm. Many things to do in Costa Rica, there is something for all activity levels. Visit one of Nicaragua's national parks to observe the active Masaya Volcano, and shop for treasures at the Indian Market. Hop on to Playas del Coco, with its unspoiled cocoa-colored beaches. It is one of the more popular beach towns in the country for both locals and tourists and is well-known for being a family friendly town. This port is accessed with a wet landing tendering. The coastal area of Bahia Herradura is known worldwide as the fishing capital of Costa Rica. It is a popular tourist destination with close proximity to Jaco Beach, with its excellent surfing conditions. This area offers many other outdoor recreational options along the black-sand beaches lined with palm trees. The adventure doesn’t end there! You’ll also explore the former banana-exporting town which is Quepos. It is your basecamp for a day of rainforest adventure. Take a walk along trails in Manuel Antonio where you will see abundant wildlife in one place. Rapel down waterfalls, or ride horseback to a beautiful jungle pool with waterfalls. A float trip through a mangrove swamp populated by monkeys, crocodiles, egrets, and herons is also available. This destination is one of the most popular trips that Traveling Texans offers, both by land and sea and will not disappoint.
