About us
Tri-County Meetups’ mission is to provide both an excellent shooting experience combined with an excellent learning experience to enable attendees to become a self-sufficient independent photographer. We are unique as compared to most meetup groups that the instructor is actively working with the students individually and collectively; looking at the students playback and histograms to insure success from both an exposure, but also a compositional and design aspect. Attending a Tri-County Meetup event you can be assured that the instructor does not just point at the subject and announce “There it is; start shooting and I will return in three hours.” Students do not have to compete with the Tri-County Instructor for shooting from the best place or time. All priorities are given to the student. Our master photography instructors seldom shoots any photos. If the instructor does shoot, it is usually to provide a better teaching situation for the student to review a composition in the playback of the camera that the student may not have understood. Our meetups help build a stronger portfolio for both the beginner or the professional. We encourage the asking of questions and because we specialize in small size groups, the mandate of one-on-one assistance is easily accomplished.
We have state of the art studio facilities and offer group shoots on location and outdoors as the season permits. We also offer meet-ups with open computer time to edit and print your best images. Critique sessions or portfolio reviews are offered usually on the second Friday night of every other month co-Sponsored by Midwest Photography Workshops.

#205 Portfolio Review and Tech Time – A one Day Workshop $20
Midwest Photographic Workshops, 28830 West 8 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI, US# #205 Portfolio Review and Tech Time – A one Day Workshop starting Friday September 4, 2026 6:30PM-9:00PM $20
This three-hour program is intended for photographers to bring in up to 10 of their images for Bryce to review and critique; saved on a USB flash drive. The students' 10 images may be their best ever images for validation that these images are as good as the photographer hopes they are. Most students however; bring in their problem images in hopes that they can gain an insight of how the image can be re-edited or perhaps re-photographed even better. Bryce will display the images on a big screen and tell you the truth about each image and hopefully; how to make it better if it can be made better. We start at 6:30PM and we continue until we are done. This program is held at our Farmington Hills campus. The image resolution should be 6"x9" @ 240 DPI or 2160 Pixels at the longest dimension. Students will also want to bring in both the RAW image (unprocessed) and their edited .jpg image if possible, in case Bryce needs to demonstrate a processing technique from scratch. Images with smaller resolution can still work, but may provide a limited opportunity as compared to the larger RAW image to take full advantage of the data available from the larger file size of a RAW file. This workshop is at our Farmington Hills Campus.

#1012 Available Light – MASTER CLASS – A six week class $360
Midwest Photographic Workshops, 28830 West 8 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI, US# #1012 Available Light – MASTER CLASS – A six week class starting Tuesday September 8, 2026 6:30PM-10:00PM $360
Available light is commonly defined as: light that is not intentionally created to supplement the existing light already at the scene. This class is designed to provide guidance and instruction to the photographer struggling with how to get the right exposure under difficult and low light levels. Some solutions include the purchase of expensive lenses with low f/stops and apertures. Other solutions involve raising the camera’s ISO to excruciating high numbers to obtain shutter speeds fast enough for sports, wildlife and hand held images. Learn about HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography; suitable for when the brightest parts of your subject compared to the darkest part of the subject is beyond the cameras capability. This master class is appropriate for photographers shooting: architecture, landscape, nature, portraits and night sky photography. Some lenses and camera bodies have built-in Image Stabilization. None of these solutions is the right answer for all shooting scenarios. Learn about all of them and create a plan of which ones or all of them that are right for you. A field trip is included.

#140 Portfolio Development – A Six Week Class $360
Midwest Photography Workshops Southfield Campus and Office, 29260 Wildbrook, Southfield, MI, US# #140 Portfolio Development – A Six Week Class starting Wednesday September 9, 2026 6:30PM-10:00PM $360
This intensive five-week class is built upon lessons from the Fundamental and Intermediate classes and at least one editing class such as Adobe Lightroom Classic or PhotoShop. This class is designed to refine the many techniques and concepts taught during the several first classes the student has completed towards the creation and development and refinement of a portfolio. Many photographers have multiple portfolios to show their varied skills and expertise. A photographer does not need a degree or a certification to be a working professional photographer. They need a portfolio! MPW will provide information on which images should be included in a portfolio; what photos would be eliminated from the portfolio by way of a "Take-no-prisoners" critique of what should change in each student's current portfolio. Then, we gently nurture your vision and assist with premium printing and display techniques so your portfolio can be presented to anyone with confidence and pride. Students will learn how to prepare both a printed portfolio or a digital portfolio that can be transferred to a CD, USB drive or your web page. We provide information on digital slide show programs such as Show Pro Gold, Adobe Lightroom Classic and Microsoft PowerPoint (including how to add music to your presentation). Learn about high resolution scanning of film and computer monitor calibration. Each student will also be granted a free three-hour studio session so they can have access to create more images to enhance their portfolio. This is not an entry level class. Students are expected to have a mastery of shutter speeds, f/stops, ISO selection and the use of lenses.

#101 Fundamentals of Photography – A six week class $330
Midwest Photographic Workshops, 28830 West 8 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, MI, US# #101 Fundamentals of Photography – A six week class starting Thursday September 10, 2026 10:30AM-2:30PM $330
This is a six-week, 4 hours per night or 4-hour daytime class, (seven-session class). It is designed for the beginning photographer who has recently purchased a digital SLR camera, a mirrorless camera, or even for people looking for a refresher on technique. This is NOT a fluff class or a watered down adult education class taught by some well intentioned hobbyist. It is presented at the same pace and intensity as a for college credit class. This class covers: exposure, shutter speeds, ISO selection, f/stops and how to read a histogram. Learn composition techniques such as: The Rule of Thirds, Leading Lines, S Curves, C curves and the Light Isolate Theory. In addition to learning about the use of filters, extension tubes, and tele-convertors; students will also receive instruction on flash photography, portraiture, close-ups (Macro Photography), and how to overcome full automation in today's cameras. Learn about how to photograph wildlife, nature and sports. We may view a couple of photographs of the portrayal of the artistic nude model as fine art. Any digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) or mirrorless camera that can be adjusted for manual operation was well as automatic exposure is welcome provided it is not an an automatic exposure only style camera. No point and shoot or cell phone cameras permitted. This class is about 30-hours in total. There is also an all-day Saturday or Sunday session at the end of the class. Expect homework assignments!
