Grayson Lake – Kayak & Camping May 21 to 24, 2024

Details

GRAYSON LAKE!

You’ve probably heard the stories about Grayson Lake,
and they’re all true.

This place is beautiful and the waterfalls are spectacular.

But you have to get there at the right time of year

and May is waterfall season.

Come on down,

It’s always worth the trip!!

Let's return to Grayson Lake and find those waterfalls!!

Rain and Waterfalls - I am hoping for a rainy spring! This is really good for the waterfalls at Grayson Lake. I'm hoping for quite a show.

I am asking everyone to book your own site, and arrange buddies to share (split the cost) if you wish. I know stuff happens, families, work... the campground will refund a partial deposit or you may find someone else to take your site.

or

My favorite sites are 25, 26, 27 and all in that loop. Just post your site number in the comments, cost and if you are offering to share.
(don''t forget possible discounts!)
These are the same sites we have used the past 4 trips I've planned, plenty of trees for hammock camping, Woods, and flat spaces for tents,,,We will be near the bathhouse which has some extra parking. Nevertheless, we have had more than two cars per site before without incident as long as we're not a bother to others. Officially we may have 8 persons per site.

We will discuss food and group meals in April!

HAMMOCK CAMPING: some sites do have trees

Where – The put ins will be determined. Any one who wish to drive down Thursday eve and paddle Friday, please do!!

COST: N0 additional cost except firewood to share

When – Expect the put in time on Wednesday to be at about 10:00 AM which means departing the I-275 loop in Northern Kentucky at about 6:30 AM. It’s a 2.5 hour drive + stops + pre-launch. Better idea to arrive Tuesday!

Driving Directions – Google it to address above. We will have directions to the put-ins!

RSVP LIMITS- I am limiting the number to 15 people. All members please. No guests!

What To Bring – PFD / sun hat / warm or cold weather clothing / water / sun screen / bug spray. Lunch will be on the water both days, We will find a beach/grassy area to get out!

Camping gear,, Kayaking gear!

Restrooms – Nothing at the Clifty Creek or KY 504 put in. Do it before you get there or get to know the chipmunks in the woods.

Weather Forecast – Will be updated!

Experience – You will spend up to six hours on the water on both Wednesday & Thursday, but the paddling will be leisurely. Expect to cover about 10 miles each day so if this is within your capabilities, then you should be fine.

Camping – We will be doing the camping in Grayson Lake State Park.
Water. showers, electricity.

Possibly visit Carter Caves.

Liability Waiver – As always, by joining in this event you are acknowledging that you have read and agree to abide by the Tri-State Kayakers liability waiver. You can find this waiver in the Files section of the Tri-State Kayakers web site

Size of Boat - 12-foot + would be ideal, but not necessary. This is not a speed-paddling / distance-endurance event. And, there are plenty of wonderful things to see without doing the complete route.

Dogs - I've seen them in the campground, but surely there are limitations. Check the online park campground rules and regulations. And, don't expect a lot of off-boat leg-stretching / pee-relieving time for your pooch. My biggest worry is a dog lifting a leg on some ones tent.

PLEASE DO NOT RSVP TO THIS EVENT IF YOU WILL NOT BE CAMPING AT GRAYSON STATE PARK OR KAYAKING WITH TRI STATE KAYAKERS.....

THANK YOU
