Learn about Netflix's Open Source Tech

Details

This month we're happy to welcome Andrew Spyker back to speak to the group. The last time Andrew spoke to us he worked for IBM and lived in the Triangle. Now he works for Netflix and left us to live in California. We'll welcome him back with open arms though.

Here is how Andrew describes his talk:

After a year at Netflix, what have I done and learned?

Come to hear about the current and evolving Netflix cloud platforms. Learn what aspects you can use in your own projects based on the Netflix Open Source releases of these technologies. We'll talk about build and bake, CI/CD, cloud micro-services runtime, persistent and semi-persistent data, chaos testing, telemetry and security. We'll also get an early view into two exciting evolving projects. First, the evolution of Netflix's continuous deployment system. Second, the container management system at Netflix.

About Andrew:

Andrew has worked on the Cloud Platform team as Netflix for the past year. He joined Netflix to help with performance and scalability across the core building blocks of Netflix’s cloud platform (Karyon, Ribbon, Eureka, Archaius). Since joining Netflix, he has helped with not only performance but also architecture, open source, and container strategy. As part of the open source work, he created the ZeroToDocker approach to help with evaluation of Netflix open source technologies. Before joining Netflix Andrew led teams at IBM delivering SaaS for some of IBM’s cloud services including IBM Watson as a service working in the RTP area.

Hopefully after All Things Open to start the week everyone can make it out. For this meetup we're at a new location, Ansible's new offices. Ansible is in the American Tobacco District. You can park in any of the American Tobacco District lots or decks. If you come to the door next to the Tobacco Road Sports cafe someone will be there to let you in. Ansible is a slightly smaller venue than we normally use, but we'll do our best to accommodate as many people as possible.

Pizza and drinks will be provided and doors open at 6:45pm.

Looking forward to seeing everyone.
