Board Game Night + Potluck of hors d'oeuvres

Details
Root is a game of adventure and war in which 2 to 4 (there is an expansion pack, but we won't be utilizing it this time) players battle for control over a large wilderness. It's considered quite complex because players control 1 of 4 factions each with a different plan for battle and condition for victory. But fear not my board game lovers - for I (Crystina) will be available as host and promise to do my best to learn the game ahead of time. In fact, I do not plan on playing this round because I'll be going around and helping players take their turns. This is to make things go more smoothly and to keep our noses out of the rule book as much as possible.
I'm encouraging everyone to bring in hors d'oeuvres to share, small and scrumptious appetizers that are easy to transport. Note: we can plan on eating any warm items first, however, we do not have access to an oven in the office, so please bring something that doesn't need to stay heated.
I'm setting an attendee limit of 10 to fit the party at our co-working table.
Please let me know right away if you're wanting to play Root and which faction because there is only room for 4 players. You can DM me on here (Meetup) or reach out on the TIAC discord server (I'm crystinahalcyon). The remaining seats will be for viewers. Attendees not playing Root are also free to play other games.
A few games we have here are:
- Decrypto
- Taboo
- Skull
- Red7
- Bananagrams
- Hive Pocket
- Takenoko
- A small chess board
You are welcome to bring your own game as well!
A bit about the factions in Root
- Marquise de Cat (The Marquise):
Industrious cats exploiting the woodland for resources. Focus on area control and building structures for points. - Eyrie Dynasties (The Eyrie):
Noble bird dynasty out to capture as much territory as possible and build roosts, if only they can succeed with all their squabbling. - Woodland Alliance (The Alliance):
Rebels spreading sympathy to incite uprisings. A hidden strategy with a focus on strategic placement. - Vagabond:
Solitary wanderer with flexibility and adaptability. Can explore, ally with factions, or engage in combat for points.
A couple of resources to learn to play (not required ahead of time):
