WakeLP Meetup
Details
Wednesday 27 May was a sad day for WakeLP: that night, we learned that we were attending our last meetup at Tobacco Road, as the iconic sports bar was abruptly and permanently closing four days later.
TR had served as our unofficial HQ for eight years, longer than any other venue in party history, and hosted dozens of speaker events, conventions, victory parties, and a memorial or two, in addition to hundreds of our weekly Wednesday night meetups over that time. During COVID, we were often the only folks in the place.
And, speaking of events, we love the Powerhouse Building that TR occupied. Lots of different-sized event spaces so you can scale up or down depending on projected attendance.
The good news is that on their way out, TR made a deal with Clouds, who are taking over the space and retaining much of the TR staff. However, they needed several weeks to perform renovations. Consequently, we have been nomads, meeting in Cary at The One Nine in June and in Raleigh at the northern Hibernian in July.
An elite crew of special forces libertarians (pictured above) did sneak into Clouds on one of their “soft opening” nights last Thursday on a recon mission…and the new menu looks outstanding! Travis particularly loved the wings and Brad was stoked to discover sweet potato fries now being an option. And lots of new beer options to check out!
So here is your chance to help celebrate our great new/old unofficial HQ at our very first scheduled meetup.
They say your first time only happens once…don’t miss it!

Clouds Brewing provides three hours of gratis parking in the Powerhouse Square Parking Deck behind the restaurant.
