Tribe of Books Ghent - 'Stillness Is The Key' by Ryan Holiday

Stillness...
What does that mean for you? Stop to think about it.
It is something both universal, but also deeply personal. Something that can be vague, but also very deep. Some of us often crave it, cannot even live without it. Others cannot stand it for a minute. To quote Blaise Pascal from his book Pensées: “All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.”
Yet, who does not wish to be steady while the world spins around you. Especially in these challenging and uncertain times. To have some inner peace and act without frenzy. To hear only what needs to be heard. To possess inner calm and tranquility - exterior and interior - on command. Stillness is that quiet moment when inspiration hits you, the ability to step back and reflect. It makes room for gratitude and happiness. We all need stillness, but those of us charging ahead with big plans and big dreams need it most of all.
There are, in fact, concrete and actionable ways to bring it into your life. It doesn’t just happen. You have to put in the work. You have to follow the guidance of the masters.
To help, we want to celebrate our 6th event and our next Book MeetUp on Thursday evening (25/06) at 7:00 pm to discuss ‘Stillness Is The Key’ by Ryan Holiday!
For many years, Ryan has been a student of Stoicism, an ancient philosophy popular in the Roman Empire, which he has tried to promote in bestsellers like ‘The Obstacle Is the Way’, ‘Ego Is the Enemy’ & ‘The Daily Stoic’. For this latest book, he not only looked at Stoicism, but also Buddhism, Confucianism, Epicureanism, Christianity, Hinduism and countless other philosophical schools and religions. He found that the one thing all these schools share is a pursuit of this inner peace—this stillness—and a belief that it’s the key to a happy and meaningful life.
This and more we will discuss during our next Tribe Of Books meetup on the 25th of June, 2020. Feel free to bring your own favorite book on the topic of Stillness and we will include it in the discussion.
> We'll adjust the format (physical, digital or hybrid) as we go :)
> Read the book or bring your own book or ideas on Stillness
> We will share some additional resources 1 week before the event
> Ask away if you have any questions
Hope to see you with many on the 25th of June!
Take care and stay still,
Nathan & Davino
