El Monte Abantos es una de las montañas más emblemáticas de la Sierra de Guadarrama, en el Sistema Central. Se encuentra en el municipio madrileño de San Lorenzo de El Escorial, y parte de su ladera oeste pertenece a Ávila.

Tiene una gran importancia histórica: en su ladera sur, el rey Felipe II eligió construir el Monasterio de El Escorial en el siglo XVI, alrededor del cual nació el actual municipio. En su vertiente norte, se encuentra el famoso Valle de los Caídos.

Hoy en día, la montaña muestra su belleza natural con pinares repoblados tras el devastador incendio de 1999, ofreciendo paisajes de gran riqueza natural e histórica.

Monte Abantos is one of the most iconic mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama, part of the Central System in Spain. Located mainly in San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid), with part of its western slope in Ávila.

It has great historical importance: King Philip II chose its southern slope to build the Monastery of El Escorial in the 16th century, around which the town was founded. On the northern slope lies the famous Valley of the Fallen.

Today, its trails and pine forests — replanted after the devastating 1999 fire — offer a blend of natural beauty and historical significance.

El Camino de la Angostura es una de las rutas oficiales del Parque de Peñalara que desciende desde el Puerto de Cotos hasta Rascafría.🏔️🥾 Un detalle geográfico fascinante es el origen del nombre del río: el Lozoya recibe el nombre de «Angostura» desde su nacimiento hasta el Puente del Perdón.🏞️ En ese punto, se junta con el río Aguilón (que baja desde la Morcuera) y es entonces cuando se rebautiza oficialmente como Lozoya.

### 🗺️Ruta lineal: Cotos – Camino de la Angostura – Rascafría

Partiremos del Puerto de Cotos, caminaremos hacia el Refugio de Pingarrón y seguiremos cruzando el arroyo de las Guarramillas. Tras disfrutar de las vistas de Valdesquí, nos dirigiremos hacia Rascafría.

The Camino de la Angostura is one of the official routes in Peñalara Park, descending from Puerto de Cotos to Rascafría.🏔️🥾 A fascinating geographical detail is the origin of the river's name: the Lozoya is called ‘Angostura’ from its source to the Puente del Perdón bridge. 🏞️ At that point, it joins the Aguilón River (which flows down from La Morcuera) and is then officially renamed Lozoya.

We will depart from Puerto de Cotos, walk towards the Pingarrón Refuge and continue crossing the Guarramillas stream. After enjoying the views of Valdesquí, we will head towards Rascafría.
