Nuestra próxima aventura de senderismo será a Peñalara, (definitivamente una de nuestras mejores rutas). En este emblemático lugar se encuentra la cima de Madrid, el pico más alto de la Sierra de Guadarrama. Considerado Sitio Natural de Interés Nacional por su importante valor ecológico, histórico y paisajístico. ⛰️ 🐐🎖️

Una ruta apta para los más valientes y con buenas condiciones físicas, ya que subiremos hasta el pico de Peñalara a una altura de 2428 m de altura, en uno de los enclaves naturales más bellos de la sierra, donde disfrutamos de increíbles vistas, lagunas glaciares, verdes praderas y con suerte, podremos ver a sus habitantes más insignes: las cabras montesas. 🐐

A la mitad del recorrido, haremos un picnic para descansar, comer y disfrutar las vistas y empezar nuestro retorno.

Our next hiking adventure will take us to Peñalara, definitely one of our best routes. This iconic location is home to the highest peak in Madrid and the highest point in the Sierra de Guadarrama. It is considered a Natural Site of National Interest due to its important ecological, historical, and scenic value. ⛰️🐐🎖️

This route is suitable for the bravest hikers and those in good physical condition, as we will climb all the way to the Peñalara peak at 2,428 metres above sea level, in one of the most beautiful natural areas of the mountains. Along the way, we will enjoy incredible views, glacial lagoons, green meadows and, if we are lucky, we may even spot some of its most iconic inhabitants: the Iberian ibex. 🐐

Halfway through the route, we will stop for a picnic to rest, eat, enjoy the views, and then begin our return.

Rodeado de montañas, bosques de pinos y aire fresco de altura, el embalse de la Jarosa es un lugar ideal para desconectar del bullicio de Madrid y sumergirse en plena naturaleza. Su entorno ofrece rutas sencillas y panorámicas que combinan agua, montaña e historia.

🌍 ¿Sabías que el embalse de la Jarosa se construyó en 1968 y es el único de la Sierra de Guadarrama? Además, bajo sus aguas quedó sumergida la aldea medieval de la Herrería, cuyos restos solo se dejan ver en épocas de sequía. ¡Caminar aquí es también caminar sobre historia!

🌿 Detalles de la Caminata La ruta será de desnivel moderado pero asequible para todos. Caminaremos alrededor del embalse, disfrutando de las vistas al agua rodeada de pinos y robles, y haremos una parada en alguna de las áreas recreativas para disfrutar de un picnic relajado con vistas espectaculares y retomar nuestro camino de vuelta.

Surrounded by mountains, pine forests, and fresh mountain air, La Jarosa Reservoir is the perfect place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of Madrid and immerse yourself in nature. Its surroundings offer easy and scenic trails that combine water, mountains, and history.

🌍 Did you know that La Jarosa Reservoir was built in 1968 and is the only reservoir in the Sierra de Guadarrama? Beneath its waters lies the submerged medieval village of La Herrería, whose remains can only be seen during periods of drought. Walking here also means walking through history!

🌿 Hiking Details
The route will have a moderate elevation gain but will be manageable for most people. We will walk around the reservoir, enjoying beautiful views of the water surrounded by pine and oak forests. We will also stop at one of the recreational areas to enjoy a relaxing picnic with spectacular views before continuing our way back.

En esta ocasión visitaremos la frontera natural entre Madrid y Guadalajara para descubrir un paraje que parece de otro planeta. Estas impresionantes formaciones de tierra rojiza, conocidas como badlands, fueron esculpidas por la erosión del agua y el viento durante miles de años. El resultado es un paisaje espectacular de pináculos, aristas y cañones que te hará sentir como si caminaras por Arizona… ¡pero sin salir de España!

🌍 ¿Sabías que Las Cárcavas se encuentran justo bajo el Pontón de la Oliva, una de las primeras presas construidas en Madrid en el siglo XIX? Es un lugar donde la historia y la geología se dan la mano en un entorno natural impresionante.

🌿 Detalles de la Caminata
Nuestra ruta será de aprox. 15 km, con desnivel moderado pero accesible para la mayoría. El esfuerzo vale totalmente la pena, ya que desde lo alto de las cárcavas tendremos unas vistas panorámicas increíbles de la Sierra Norte.

A mitad del recorrido, pararemos para un picnic relajado: buena comida, naturaleza y amigos antes de continuar la aventura.

On this trip, we’ll visit the natural border between Madrid and Guadalajara to discover a landscape that looks like it’s from another planet. These impressive reddish-earth formations, known as badlands, were sculpted by water and wind erosion over thousands of years. The result is a spectacular landscape of pinnacles, ridges, and canyons that will make you feel like you’re walking through Arizona… but without ever leaving Spain!

🌍 Did you know that Las Cárcavas is located right below the Pontón de la Oliva, one of the first dams built in Madrid in the 19th century? It’s a place where history and geology come together in a stunning natural setting.

🌿 Hike Details
Our route will be approximately 15 km, with moderate elevation gain but accessible to most. The effort is totally worth it, as from the top of the gullies we’ll enjoy incredible panoramic views of the Sierra Norte.

Halfway through the hike, we’ll stop for a relaxed picnic: good food, nature, and friends before continuing the adventure.
