What we’re about

Tropical Trekkers is a chapter of the Florida Trail Association (FTA) responsible for maintaining the Florida National Scenic Trail form the North end of Lake Okeechobee to the north end of Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.
We use this meetup group to advertise the FTA to the public by listing the activities that our volunteer leaders offer. You’ll find many activities that are listed as “FTA members only”. Petravice Family Preserve Hike
Petravice Family Preserve, 5445 Palmetto Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL, US
FTA MEMBERS ONLY If interested, please email me at pennysnyder78@yahoo.com. This is a 3 mile hike through an old palm nursery and oak hammock along the North Fork of the St. Lucie River. Please bring 2 liters of water, bug spray, and sun screen. Please wear closed toe shoes. We will meet at the parking lot of the preserve whose address is 5445 Palmetto Avenue, Ft. Pierce, FL. 34982. Please come at least 15 minutes early so we can get started promptly at 10 AM.

HIKE MAGGY'S HAMMOCK AND TWIN RIVERS PARK
Maggy's Hammock Park, 3854 SE Kubin Ave, Stuart, FL, US
An early morning hike in Maggy's Hammock Park followed by a hike in Twin Rivers Park. First we'll we'll hike in Maggy's Hammock, a lush tropical forest and scrub on the Atlantic Ridge in Port Salerno. Then, we'll walk the boardwalk and paths in Twin Rivers Park by the shores of the Saint Lucie Inlet and the Indian River Lagoon. Please wear close toed shoes, long pants, and long sleeve shirt. Wear a hat and your smile.

We'll meet in the parking lot across from the bathroom at the trailhead. Only one vehicle per site is allowed, so we can drive through the gate to drop off all our tenting gear and drive back to leave vehicles outside of the gate. We'll hike about 2.5 miles in to Hickory hammock Campsite and stop for lunch (bring your own) and a break, then hike back. Everyone is free to meander around the area. Dinner is pot luck, bring a little something to share. THERE IS A FIRE BAN, SO NO CAMPFIRE. Camp stoves are allowed. We need to break down and leave by 10 AM the next morning, and whoever is interested can join me to do an exploratory (I've not been there) kayak to (or toward) Lake Istokpoga.

Morning hike and brunch at Oak Hammock Park
Oak Hammock Park, 1982 SW Villanova Rd., Port St Lucie, FL, US
Hike about 2 1/2 miles on the oak and pine loops, followed by pot luck brunch under the pavilion. Meet at the bathrooms. Expect some roots and a couple sunny spots. Bring whatever you drink and a little something to share. I'll provide plates, utensils and napkins.
