In this meetup, we will describe how to contribute to lesson “The Bioconductor project” in The Carpentries incubator.

This is a Hacktoberfest 2022 ( https://hacktoberfest.com ) edition of the Bioconductor community meetup.
Pull requests to the GitHub repository for the lesson merged during October 2022 count toward Hacktoberfest 2022 progress, leading to rewards such as stickers, t-shirts, or a tree planted in your name.

The Multilingual Bioconductor Working Group will be hosting a virtual Translation-a-thon.
We expect the attendees to translate Bioconductor related English material into non-English with Crowdin(Localization Management Platform).
This will be an exciting fun event to connect with the Bioconductor users in many languages and network with our globally diverse community.
You don’t need to be an expert or a developer in Bioconductor, we welcome complete beginners and we’ll show you around Bioconductor
You just have a language you wish to share.
You will help translate documents into your own language, so more people that speak your language can participate in Bioconductor!

Bioconductor Docker & Containers (Reschedule from Sept)

Bioconductor provides a range of options that allow users and developers to perform their analysis using containers, taking away the burden of installing dependencies and system requirements. Containers allow software to be used in a reproducible, reliable and isolated fashion.

Bioconductor also produce containers that replicate their build machines to allow developers contributing to the project to test their changes more aggressively before being put in production. These containers will provide the base infrastructure for cloud/web platforms in the near future. This talk will highlight how to use these containers effectively through docker on your local machine and demo their usage in the cloud.

Title: A prospective analysis of circulating plasma metabolomics and ovarian cancer risk

Bio: My current research focuses on the understanding of cancer etiology through the application of cutting edge bioinformatics and machine learning methods to the integration of multiple omics, particularly metabolomics and genomics, with epidemiological data such as diet and lifestyle information. I received my PhD in Bioinformatics from the Graz University of Technology (Austria) where I focused on the integrative analysis of multiple omics data types. I am an Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation scholar and have a BSc in Computer Engineering and an MSc in Machine Learning, and did my postdoctoral training in cancer epidemiology at the Channing Division of Network Medicine (Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA) where I specialized in metabolomics. During my postdoctoral training, I received the Scholar in Training Award from the American Association for Cancer Research in 2018 and the The Early-Career Members Network of the Metabolomics Society Travel Grant 2019.

Bio
I received my Master of Science in Computer Vision and Graphics and Machine Learning from the Graz University of Technology in Austria after I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Computer Engineering from the same university. I am working in Hugo Aerts Lab at DFCI and am a PhD candidate in Computational Imaging and Bioinformatics at the Maastricht University. My current research focuses on deep learning as well as manual and automatic tumor segmentation in CT and MR images.
