What we’re about

Welcome! We are a group of friendly and fun folks who contradance to live music on Saturday nights once or twice a month. These are open, community dances (usually 50 or more dancers) that begin with an introductory lesson at 6:30. We are an inclusive dance community committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. You can come by yourself or with a group of friends.  No experience is required. We love newcomers. If you are new to contra dance be sure to come for the lesson at 6:30, it's really helpful.

VOLUNTEER
Contra dance has mixed origins from English country, Scottish & French dance styles of the 17th century and reportedly was common in the French and English American colonies. It is now a distinct dance form unto itself with a unique American flavor. The dances have distinct moves, such as the partner swing as in square dancing, but they are danced in lines or circles and you change partners every dance. The dances are challenging, but get easier the more you dance: instructions are given before each dance. We have free snacks at the break and often go out to eat after the dance. Dances are sponsored by Tucson Friends of Traditional music, www.tftm.org. Come join us!
