Step into the shadows for an eerie Halloween hike, weaving through the famously haunted village of Pluckley and deep into the creepy Dering Woods - often whispered about as one of the most haunted woodlands in England.
We’ll be setting off late, deliberately timing our route so that we enter the most chilling stretches under the falling darkness on Halloween night itself. As the light fades and the atmosphere thickens, expect every rustle, shadow, and distant sound to keep you on edge.
To honour the spirit of Halloween some form of costume is compulsory - whether subtle, symbolic, or a full transformation, all are welcome as long as you embrace the theme.
Along the way we’ll break up the tension with stops at more than one local pub, offering a chance to warm up, share stories, and steady the nerves before heading back into the unknown.

(#) Rolling hills, woodland & screaming fields - the creepiest of the ‘Garden of England’.
(#) Drift through old apple orchards, branches clawing at the fading light – echoes of the ‘Red Lady’ moving just out of sight.
(#) Break at a remote hilltop viewpoint for an eerie outdoor lunch.
(#) Venture into the depths of the haunted Dering Woods – the so-called ‘Screaming Woods’ – where folklore speaks of cries in the dark, disorientation and a general unease.
(#) Enter Pluckley, England’s most haunted village, where the ‘Hanging Schoolmaster’ is said to linger near the churchyard, never quite gone, never quite seen.
(#) Enjoy dinner in an old English hostelry, trading tales of fright over drink and firelight… though some swear the woods follow you in, long after you’ve left them behind.

Extended break for lunch / Mid hike pub stop (drinks only) / Dinner pub stop (1.5 miles from Pluckley station).

- 9:55 – Train from VICTORIA
- 11:15 – Start walk from HARRIETSHAM
- 18:30 - Dinner pub
- 21:00 – Estimated finish, no guarantees!
(Linear hike) – Finish at PLUCKLEY Station but we will be having dinner at ‘The Black Horse’ pub before completing the final 1.5 miles. Those wishing to not stop will need to navigate the final section independently (easy to navigate).
