The Indian River Lagoon: A Treasure Worth Saving

Details
Join us this month for an inspiring presentation by Laurilee Thompson, activist and Co-Owner of Dixie Crossroads restaurant.
The Public is invited. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, allowing ample time for mingling before the meeting commences.
The Indian River Lagoon (IRL), one of North America’s most biodiverse estuaries, is a national treasure under threat. Its mangrove wetlands and salt marshes nurture countless species, but decades of human impact—starting with environmental changes from the 1960s space race—have led to algae blooms, fish kills, and seagrass loss. Restoration efforts are making progress, and with careful management, the IRL can thrive again for wildlife and people.
Hear from Laurilee Thompson, whose life has been shaped by the IRL. From her childhood on her grandfather’s fishing pier to commercially fishing as a teen and running longline fishing boats, Laurilee’s love for the lagoon runs deep.
She has served on a variety of tourism, growth management, environmental, and fishery boards. Now, as co-owner of Titusville’s Dixie Crossroads Seafood Restaurant and a passionate advocate, she’s dedicated to restoring the IRL.
Free and open to all!
Join us to learn how we can protect the IRL!
We meet at the Unitarian Universalist Friendship Fellowship, located at 3115 Friendship Pl · Rockledge, FL. Our presentation begins at 7pm on Thursday, September 25th!
