We are hosting a series of discussions focused on the philosophy of AI. Our motivating questions are whether today's LLMs have knowledge, whether they are conscious, whether they have agency, and finally whether they can be moral.

This week we consider how computers that are putatively purely syntactic can also be semantic, for which we will read and discuss this paper.
