We have a saying - you do not choose Tango. Tango chooses you. And when the time is right - you will encounter it.
We are not gonna lie to you. It will not be easy. But it is the best thing you will ever do for Your Partner and Yourself! Argentine Tango is not just a dance.
Hernan and I think of an Argentine Tango as a Philosophy of Life. People who join us on the journey to discovery usually stay for years. I would say forever, but that's a tricky word since I had not experienced foreverness quite yet... It would indicate immortality, right?
Tango is a dance based on communication between two bodies - the dance is improvised. That means the Leader proposes the movement to the Follower in response to what she confirms the understanding of it and interprets it in the way she and her body understood the proposal. All this happens non-verbally - that's why the dance is extremely difficult but developed undescribable understanding between the couple.
We teach for years and see it happening over and over again. It does not happen in one lesson though. So if you expect that
- you are simply deceiving yourself. Tango is a path. We invite you to step on it and start your journey.

Learn Argentine Tango and build new friendships! - 6 weeks Beginner course
Ultimate Tango School of Dance, 349 Washington St, Malden, MA, USLearning Argentine Tango happens in a few phases, and the Beginner course is the one everything else is built on. It’s also the starting point for all of our higher levels.
This course is built around the holidays: 3 classes in November and 3 in December. Each class runs a full 2 hours, so you get 12 hours of instruction and still have your Thanksgiving week free.
In 6 sessions you will learn the Argentine Tango essentials: the tango walk (caminata), weight changes, the baldosa, rebounds, and the 8-count basic to the cross. You’ll also learn the difference between the parallel and cross systems.
We’ll explain the essence of the tango embrace: how to connect and communicate with your partner without words, read body language, show your intention, and take care of the couple’s wellbeing. Partners rotate during class, so you’ll learn to dance with many different people.
You will also become familiar with the principles of improvisation, navigation and musicality.

This immersive pre-intermediate Argentine Tango course is your gateway to understanding Tango musicality in a whole new way. If you’ve ever felt the beat but weren’t sure what to do with it, this is for you.
We’ll break down the essential tools that help dancers not only hear the music but truly respond to it. You’ll explore the rhythms and phrasing that make Argentine Tango such an expressive, emotional and thrilling dance.

What You’ll Learn:
- Time, Double Time & Half Time: How to move faster, slower, or not at all, and why it matters.
- 1 vs. 3: Discover why some beats carry more weight than others, and how to use them for dramatic effect.
- Counting Tango Music: Should you count to 4, 8, or 16? You’ll find out what makes the most musical sense.
- Off-Beat, Contratiempo & Syncopation: Learn to play against the beat and add texture to your dancing.
- Pauses & Phrasing: When to pause, how to phrase your movement, and how to create tension and release.
- Cadencia: Explore the natural rise and fall of Tango, and how it shapes your steps and your feeling.
Through practical, feet-on-the-floor exercises, you’ll learn how to modify familiar sequences to reflect the music’s phrasing, so you don’t just follow choreography, you interpret it.
This course is about becoming a musical dancer: one who listens, responds and expresses.

Master the rhythm, caedencia & steps in 16-week Intensive
Ultimate Tango School of Dance, 349 Washington St, Malden, MA, USMilonga looks like the easy one. It isn't.
That fast, playful music hides real difficulty: intricate rhythms, quick weight changes, and a cadencia that takes time to feel in your body. This 16 week intensive demystifies all of it, so you stop surviving the fast tandas and start actually playing with them.
By the end, you'll read milonga's rhythm with confidence, tell double time and traspie apart without thinking, and move with the swing and grounded ease that makes milonga so addictive to dance and to watch.
This is also the course that completes you as a dancer. Very few people are truly comfortable in all three tango genres. Finish this, and you join that small group.
What you'll learn:
Milonga vocabulary: a growing repertoire of steps, combinations, and sequences that become second nature, so you can express milonga fluently rather than counting through it.
Milonga musicality, including:
• Affixed rhythm and the repetitive parts
• Milonga lisa and suspensions
• Double time versus traspie, patterns and timing
• Cadencia, phrasing, corrida, and 3 3 2 syncopationRecommended reading: "Let's Dance to the Music!" by Joaquin Amenabar.
This course builds progressively, each class on the one before, so even if you've studied milonga before you'll find new depth. Drop ins are possible but not encouraged: you'll get by far the most from committing to the full journey.
