About us
Thank you for joining Ultimate Tango Community!
You are about to immerse yourself into a world full of adventure, passion, learning, and friendships.
Learning Argentine Tango can change your life in numerous ways. We know it because we teach it for like - forever. Special people start learning the Tango and this is not without reason. We have a saying - you do not choose Tango. Tango chooses you. And when the time is right - you will encounter it.
We are not gonna lie to you. It will not be easy. But it is the best thing you will ever do for Your Partner and Yourself! Argentine Tango is not just a dance.
Hernan and I think of an Argentine Tango as a Philosophy of Life. People who join us on the journey to discovery usually stay for years. I would say forever, but that's a tricky word since I had not experienced foreverness quite yet... It would indicate immortality, right?
Tango is a dance based on communication between two bodies - the dance is improvised. That means the Leader proposes the movement to the Follower in response to what she confirms the understanding of it and interprets it in the way she and her body understood the proposal. All this happens non-verbally - that's why the dance is extremely difficult but developed undescribable understanding between the couple.
We teach for years and see it happening over and over again. It does not happen in one lesson though. So if you expect that
- you are simply deceiving yourself. Tango is a path. We invite you to step on it and start your journey.

Volcadas Without Force | Pre-Advanced 8-Week Series
Ultimate Tango School of Dance, 349 Washington St, Malden, MA, USIn tango, volcadas are not tricks or dramatic shapes. They are a conversation about axis, trust, and shared intention. A slight displacement, a subtle lean, a moment where both partners agree to leave vertical balance and create something suspended together.
In this 8-week Pre-Advanced Series, we explore volcadas as a natural extension of walking and structure, not as isolated figures. The goal is not to “do volcadas,” but to understand when, why, and how they emerge organically in the dance.
This course clarifies what volcadas truly are (and are NOT): not a forced lean, not a loss of balance, but a controlled off-axis relationship built on precision, timing, and connection.
Main Focus:
- Understanding axis: own axis vs shared axis vs transferred axis
- How to safely enter and exit volcadas without force
- The role of the standing leg and projection in creating tilt
- Leader’s proposal vs follower’s response: timing and agreement
- Small vs large volcadas: control, intention, and space awareness
- Integrating volcadas into walking and simple sequences
Additional Explorations:
- Forward and side volcadas in close and slightly open embrace
- Volcadas from crosses, rebounds, and directional changes
- Circular vs linear volcadas and how they affect navigation
- Musical timing: suspensions, slow motion, and elastic transitions
- How not to collapse: maintaining structure through the torso and embrace
- Exits that flow: resolving volcadas into continuous movement
If volcadas feel intimidating, unstable, or unclear, this series will give you the mechanics and confidence to approach them with clarity. If you already use them, it will refine your control so they feel effortless, precise, and musical instead of heavy or forced.
You will stop trying to make volcadas happen and start recognizing when they are already available in the dance.

Structure of Improvisation: Think, See, Decide ->>> Intensive
Ultimate Tango School of Dance, 349 Washington St, Malden, MA, USIn tango, improvisation is often misunderstood as freedom without structure. In reality, it’s the opposite. The more clearly you understand structure, the more freedom you actually have.
In this intensive, we approach improvisation as a system. You will learn how movement is built, how to recognize familiar structures inside what you dance, and how to modify them in real time.
Instead of memorizing sequences, you will begin to see tango as a set of components you can reorganize, interrupt, and reshape depending on space, music, and intention.
This is not about learning more figures. It’s about understanding what’s already there.
Main Focus:
- Understanding how tango patterns are constructed
- Breaking movement into elements: step, pivot, weight change, direction
- Recognizing reusable “chunks” and structural pathways
- How to modify patterns without losing clarity
- Entering and exiting structures with control
- Making real-time decisions based on space, partner, and music
Additional Explorations:
- Transforming one idea into multiple outcomes
- Interruptions: pauses, rebounds, redirections
- Same structure, different result: timing, size, intention
- Linear vs circular organization of movement
- Simplifying complex sequences into usable material
- Building continuity so the dance flows instead of resets
If you’ve ever felt stuck repeating sequences, or unsure what to do next, this intensive will give you a framework to navigate the dance with clarity.
You will stop relying on memory and start recognizing options.Improvisation will become something you understand, not something you hope for.
