Counseling Across Cultures: Insights from Black and African American Individuals

As a graduate student in counseling, I am dedicated to learning how to better support and understand individuals from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. This group is intended to foster open and meaningful conversations about Black identity, experiences, and mental health in a welcoming space.

I acknowledge that, as a white individual, I do not share the lived experiences of Black/African American communities, but I am eager to listen, learn, and engage in honest discussions. My goal is to create a respectful and supportive environment where participants feel valued and heard.

This group is open to Black/African American individuals who are interested in sharing their perspectives and discussing topics related to identity, systemic challenges, mental health, and more. While I will help provide topics to guide the conversation, the focus will be on amplifying Black/African American voices and fostering mutual understanding.

What to Expect:
Small group discussions on race, identity, and mental health.
A safe space for open and respectful dialogue.
No pressure to educate—come as you are, share as much as you’re comfortable with.
A chance to connect and engage with others who value authentic conversations.

Who Should Join?
Black/African American individuals interested in sharing their thoughts on identity, culture, and mental health.
Those open to discussing personal or community experiences in a safe and respectful setting.
Individuals willing to offer insight into how white therapists can be more effective and culturally aware.
