About us
Welcome to the Urbanature Community! šš½
This is a space for local travelers, expats, and outdoor enthusiasts to connect face-to-face. Our mission is to break away from the daily grind and explore amazing places together, blending urban exploration with comfortable nature trails and scenic hikes.
Our European Network: We are a growing, vibrant community of explorers! We are currently running active day trips and hikes in Berlin, Dresden, Düsseldorf, and Paris, with Frankfurt launching very soon. We are also actively working to get our London and Munich chapters back on track!
### How Our Community Works
Our group is genuinely peer-led! Our active local guides are actually former participants who loved attending our trips so much that they stepped up to lead them for fun. Together, we organize two types of experiences:
- Local Day Trips & Hikes: Easily accessible weekend getaways starting right here in town. We actively prioritize using trains and public transit for these local routes to keep things sustainable, low-impact, and highly affordable (ā¬10āā¬12 to support our local guides).
- Broader Travel Adventures: Unique, immersive itineraries across Europe and beyond. For destinations that require catching a flight, our focus shifts toward slow, mindful travelāsupporting local economies, staying in community-centric lodging, and building deep cross-cultural connections.
- We Are Always Looking for New Guides! š¢ Our community thrives because of people like you. Even though we have active guides in place, we are always looking for more passionate travel lovers who want to lead fun weekend day walks or hikes. If you love exploring and want to give back to the local community, drop us a message! Itās a great way to essentially get paid to have funāyou won't get rich, but we will nominally cover your time and track costs so you can share your passion with a great group of people. Connect with us here on Meetup or through our website!
Whether you want to meet like-minded people on a local weekend hike or join a larger group journey, you are welcome here!
Stay Connected & Join the Community Conversation: To chat with fellow members, share photos from past trips, or get early updates on our upcoming schedule, join our community channels:

āWHAT ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS?
- Discover Stavanger: Stavanger is Norway's fourth largest city with around 120,000 inhabitants and offers a fascinating mix of old and new. Its history goes back deep into the Middle Ages. Stavanger was once a quiet coastal market and later an important fishing port. Stavanger's old centre has some of the most beautiful and best-preserved wooden buildings anywhere in Norway, many dating back to the 18th century. It's all very pretty, and in summer the waterfront comes alive in the best port-town style.
- Fargegaten - Ovre Holmegate (The Colourful street): Ćvre Holmegate is now one of the major attractions in Stavanger. Locals call the street Fargegata (the street of colours).
- Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock): Pulpit Rock is believed to have been formed centuries ago due to frost erosion that washed away all loose soil on the rock. The result is a conspicuous cliff standing high overlooking the Lysefjord. The result of frost erosion led to one of the most spectacular sceneries in Europe, which shows natureās architecture at its best. Preikestolen is a popular tourist attraction destination in Norway, drawing local and international tourists.
- Hiking Trail to Preikestolen: This iconic hike in Norway involves walking along a 2.5-mile trail to Pulpit Rock from the trailhead. A round-trip hike will see you covering around 5 miles taking around 4 hours. There is a lot to see along this hill trail to Pulpit Rock. From the wet area with a wooden bridge, climb the next section with stairs, which is also the steepest. Close to the top, you open up to a vast open area called TjĆødane. This area has three small lakes and an emergency shelter. The Pulpit Rock hike continues past the lakes where you reach the Preikestolen plateau.
- Kjeragbolten : Norway's terrifying photo opportunity: One of the most popular photo opportunities in Norway is Kjeragbolten . Just because of its strange appearance, it is a destination that everyone should see with their own eyes. It seems rather inconspicuous when we talk about a boulder stuck in a mountain. In our opinion, Kjeragbolten is the best proof that mother nature provides the best templates for an impressive picture on the camera. No human would ever have been able to form such a formation!!!
- Lysefjord: From Kjeragbolten , as well as from Mount Kjerag itself, you can also get a stunning view of the Lysefjord . This 42 km long fjord is located about 25 km east of the city of Stavanger. The name means "bright fjord" in German and is derived from the light coloured granite rocks on its sides. To the east of the fjord lies the small, almost isolated village of Lysebotn. At the western end of the Lysefjord, however, you can visit the villages of Forsand and Oanes. There are a few other very small and scattered settlements along the fjord. On the sides you can discover terrifying rock faces that fall almost vertically over 1000 metres into the water. However, the fjord is not only long and narrow, but also very deep. In places it is as deep as the nearby mountains.
- Trolltunga: One of the most awe-inspiring cliffs in Norway, situated about 1,100 meters above sea level and hovering some 700 metres above Lake Ringedalsvatnet. Trolltunga juts out at right angles to the mountainside, like a huge troll's tongue carved in stone. It has been there for thousands of years, just waiting for you to make your way to its edge and to admire the fantastic views.
- Hiking to Trolltunga: This hike has now been certified as a āNorwegian Scenic Hikeā and rightly so as the hike is incredibly scenic with phenomenal views of lakes & snow-capped mountains. The hike goes through high-mountain terrain up to Trolltunga (1,180 metres above sea level) with the trail to Trolltunga being part of an ancient thoroughfare between western and eastern Norway, across the Hardangervidda plateau.
- Buarbreen Glacier Hike: One of the most popular hikes in the Hardangerfjord region. The views of the glacier itself are spectacular, but just as beautiful are the views along the way. The bluish shimmering glacier tongue and right next to it a rushing waterfall makes this hike a very special experience.
- Discovering Odda: Considered the secret capital of Hardanger. A place framed by two national parks, namely the Hardangerviddas, a unique plateau in Norway and the Folgefonna National Park with the 3rd largest glacier in Norway, at the inner end of the SĆørfjord a branch of the Hardangerfjord.
- TjĆørnadalsfossen: Mammoth stepped waterfall dropping a total of 515 meters (1,690 feet) in 6-7 distinct but marginally separated steps.
- LĆ„tefossen: This 165-metre tall ādouble waterfallā is unique in that it consists of two separate streams gushing down from Lake Lotevatnet. These streams dramatically converge just before flowing under the old, stone, six-arched bridge into the river GrĆønsdalslona.
- Discover Bergen (Optional & time permitting): Known as the āThe Fjord capital of the worldā, Bergen is surrounded by mountains and fjords, including Sognefjord, Norwayās longest and deepest fjord. Bryggen (UNESCO World Heritage site) features colorful wooden houses on the old wharf, once a center of the Hanseatic League's trading empire. The FlĆøibanen Funicular goes up FlĆøyen Mountain for panoramic views and hiking trails.
- RIB Boat Fjord Safari (Optional): Historical fjord safari in the Hardangerfjord - a fjord filled with living cultural heritage, surrounded by massive mountains clad in glacier ice. Along the route, you will see different attractions, spots of wildlife, and the professional guide will tell fascinating natural- and cultural stories from the area. There is also a chance of seeing the porpoise or a soaring eagle.
- Norwegian Sauna (Optional): Finish your epic hiking trip with a fresh fjord bath and a steaming sauna while enjoying the views of the fjord and the mountains.
- Norwegian Fjord Experience (Norway in a Nutshell: If selecting Option b while purchasing ticket): Popular, self-guided tour package designed to showcase some of Norway's most stunning fjord and mountain scenery in a relatively short amount of time and doable in a single day. It involves a combination of train journeys (including the famous FlÄm Railway, known as one of the world's most scenic), a fjord cruise through UNESCO-listed fjords like the Nærøyfjord, and bus transfers, connecting major cities like Oslo and Bergen with charming fjord villages like FlÄm and Gudvangen. It's a convenient way to experience a concentrated dose of Norway's breathtaking natural beauty without extensive planning. Note: This option will also include 1 / 2 x nights accommodation, boat cruise in the Fjord, Scenic train journey & any possible buses needed to be taken.

Hereās the thingāthis hike isnāt something just anyone can do. All the spots at the iconic Knorr Hut have been booked solid for months, but Iāve got us covered. I secured these places well in advance so that you can enjoy this incredible route at the best possible time!WHAT IS THE PLAN?
- Day 0 - Meet & Greet: Relaxed day ā we all meet at the hotel in the evening, having late evening dinner, preparing ourselves for next dayās adventures.
- Day 1 (Distance ā 20 km) ā Today post breakfast, we would start our journey to hut. The hike itself would go through the Reintal valley. During the hike we would pass the impressive Partnachklamm gorge, the secluded Reintal valley, the Reintalangerhütte and at the evening would approach Knorrhütte. It is possible to have a nice lunch there, at their restaurant, So, you do not need to carry on food with you. During the day we would gain around 1400 meters.
- Day 2 (Hike distance <10 km) ā After the early breakfast at the hut, we would start our hike to summit. Although it is quite short, we would gain another 870 meters to reach the summit at around mid-day. After relaxing at the top and enjoying the pristine beauty of the majestic and mighty mountains, we will use the cable car to go down to the city. Here, our trip ends at around 3 PM, so you would have time to go to Munich and travel back home.
