About us

Welcome to the Urbanature Community! 👋🏽
This is a space for local travelers, expats, and outdoor enthusiasts to connect face-to-face. Our mission is to break away from the daily grind and explore amazing places together, blending urban exploration with comfortable nature trails and scenic hikes.

Our European Network: We are a growing, vibrant community of explorers! We are currently running active day trips and hikes in Berlin, Dresden, Düsseldorf, and Paris, with Frankfurt launching very soon. We are also actively working to get our London and Munich chapters back on track!

### How Our Community Works

Our group is genuinely peer-led! Our active local guides are actually former participants who loved attending our trips so much that they stepped up to lead them for fun. Together, we organize two types of experiences:

  • Local Day Trips & Hikes: Easily accessible weekend getaways starting right here in town. We actively prioritize using trains and public transit for these local routes to keep things sustainable, low-impact, and highly affordable (€10–€12 to support our local guides).
  • Broader Travel Adventures: Unique, immersive itineraries across Europe and beyond. For destinations that require catching a flight, our focus shifts toward slow, mindful travel—supporting local economies, staying in community-centric lodging, and building deep cross-cultural connections.
  • We Are Always Looking for New Guides! 📢 Our community thrives because of people like you. Even though we have active guides in place, we are always looking for more passionate travel lovers who want to lead fun weekend day walks or hikes. If you love exploring and want to give back to the local community, drop us a message! It’s a great way to essentially get paid to have fun—you won't get rich, but we will nominally cover your time and track costs so you can share your passion with a great group of people. Connect with us here on Meetup or through our website!

Whether you want to meet like-minded people on a local weekend hike or join a larger group journey, you are welcome here!

Stay Connected & Join the Community Conversation: To chat with fellow members, share photos from past trips, or get early updates on our upcoming schedule, join our community channels:

    WHAT IS THE PLAN??
Day 1 (Friday) - Meet & Greet + Lava Show
Based on your arrival time, meet your guide at Keflavik Airport / Reykjavik bus station or directly at the accommodation and just head to supermarket to get some snacks for our roadtrip.
We finish the day by going to the Lava Show in Reykjavík offers a unique and immersive experience, allowing visitors to witness real molten lava up close. The show provides a sensory-rich environment where guests can see, hear, and feel the intense heat of lava flowing in a controlled setting.
Day 2 - South of Iceland
The south of Iceland is home to some of the country's most iconic natural wonders, including the black sand beaches of Reynisfjara, the beautiful Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls, and the stunning views of Dyrhólaey lighthouse and we also get to access the DC3 plane wreck. These unique landscapes are truly breathtaking and provide endless opportunities for exploration and adventure.
We start our day early in Reykjavík and head towards the South Coast. Our first stop is Seljalandsfoss, a waterfall you can walk behind, followed by Skógafoss, where you can climb to the top for panoramic views. Continue to Sólheimajökull Glacier for a short walk to its edge or a glacier hike.
Next, visit the famous DC-3 Plane Wreck on Sólheimasandur Beach. The wreckage of the US Navy plane, which crashed in 1973, is an iconic spot for photos.
Afterward, head to Dyrhólaey Peninsula for coastal views and puffin spotting (in summer), then explore Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, known for its basalt sea stacks and powerful waves. We then continue our drive east to Kirkjubæjarklaustur for the night.
Day 3 (Sunday) - Glacier Lagoon + East Fjord's Day
This scenic day takes you through Iceland’s southeast and into the stunning East Fjords. Start early from Kirkjubæjarklaustur and stop at Skaftafell National Park for glacier views or a short hike to Svartifoss waterfall. Continue to Fjallsárlón and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoons, where icebergs drift through glacier-fed lakes. Don’t miss a walk on Diamond Beach across the road.
Stop for lunch in Höfn, known for its lobster, before heading into the quieter and more dramatic East Fjords. The drive takes you along winding coastal roads with optional stops in fishing villages like Djúpivogur and Stöðvarfjörður. If conditions allow, we will take the scenic Öxi Pass for a shorter and more adventurous route inland.
Arrive in Eyjólfsstaðir (where we would be staying for the night), a peaceful countryside area near Egilsstaðir, by evening. It’s a great place to relax after a full day of driving and sightseeing.
    Day 4 - Northern Iceland
Today’s route is packed with natural wonders as you head from East to North Iceland. Depart Eyjólfsstaðir early and detour off Route 1 toward Dettifoss, Europe’s most powerful waterfall. The road is gravel but manageable in summer, and the raw force of Dettifoss (and nearby Selfoss) is absolutely worth it.
Continue west to the Mývatn area, a geothermal playground. Walk through the otherworldly Hverir hot springs and steaming vents, visit the lava formations at Dimmuborgir, and, if time allows, relax at the Mývatn Nature Baths—a quieter alternative to the Blue Lagoon.
As you continue toward Akureyri, stop at the stunning Goðafoss, a horseshoe-shaped waterfall with historical significance and a great photo op.
Arrive in Akureyri by evening, where you can explore the vibrant town center, stroll along the harbor, or grab dinner with a view. It’s a perfect mix of nature, culture, and small-town charm to wind down the day.
    Day 5 - West Iceland
Leave Akureyri and head west toward the Skagafjörður region, known for Icelandic horses and wide-open valleys. Our first stop is at Glaumbær Turf Farm, a preserved historic site offering a glimpse into Icelandic life in the past.
Continue toward Borgarfjörður, where you can explore Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, two striking waterfalls flowing through lava rock. Optionally, detour to Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring, and even dip into the Krauma Baths nearby if time permits.
Then make your way to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called “Iceland in Miniature” for its diverse landscapes. Arrive in Grundarfjörður, your base for the night, located near the famous Kirkjufell Mountain—a perfect photo stop, especially at sunset.
Expect longer stretches of driving today, but balanced by beautiful fjord views, horse-filled meadows, and lesser-known gems along the way. A relaxing dinner in Grundarfjörður is a great way to end the day.
Day 6 (Wednesday) - Snæfellsnes peninsula - miniature Iceland
The Snaefellsnes Peninsula is known for its rugged, natural beauty. It is home to the iconic Snæfellsjökull glacier, which inspired Jules Verne's famous novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth." The peninsula is also home to dramatic lava fields, volcanic craters, hot springs, waterfalls, and black sand beaches.
Gatklettur, also known as the "Arch Rock," is a unique rock formation located in the southern coast of Iceland, near the town of Arnarstapi, which we are going to visit on our roadtrip.
One of the biggest highlights of this day will be Kirkjufellfoss waterfall and its surrounding area that offer stunning views of the mountain Kirkjufell, which is one of the most photographed mountains in Iceland. The combination of the waterfall and the mountain makes for a beautiful and unique landscape.
Lóndrangar is part of the Snæfellsjökull National Park, which is a protected nature reserve in Iceland. The Lóndrangar formation is made up of two volcanic rock pillars that rise from the sea to a height of about 75 meters. The pillars were formed by a volcanic eruption and are now home to a variety of seabirds, including puffins and guillemots.
Optional: If time permits, we may head into Snæfellsjökull National Park for stunning glacier and volcanic views.
Day 7 (Thursday) - Golden Circle
Today we make your way to the Golden Circle. First stop is Þingvellir National Park, where you can walk between tectonic plates and explore the historical site. Then visit Geysir Hot Springs to see the erupting Strokkur geyser, and finish at Gullfoss, Iceland’s most famous waterfall and also a visit to Unique Green house Tomato farm where we will also lunch today.
On the way back to Reykjavík, stop at Kerid Crater, a volcanic lake with colorful slopes. End your day with a unique dinner at Friðheimar Tomato Farm, where you can enjoy a tomato-themed meal in a warm greenhouse. Finally, drive back to Reykjavík to relax after a Full 5 Road tripping adventure covering the entire Iceland.
Day 8 (Friday) - Exploring Reykjavik
Today we explore Reykjavik, Iceland's vibrant capital city, that has plenty to offer visitors including visiting:

    • Hallgrimskirkja: This iconic church is one of Reykjavik's most recognizable landmarks. Visitors can take an elevator to the top of the tower for panoramic views of the city.

    • Hiking in the Eifel Region: This region was shaped by volcanic activity and although the last volcano erupted about 10,000 years ago, evidence of the Eifel’s turbulent past can be seen in the crater lakes, called maars, that pepper the Vulkaneifel landscape. The region also boasts some of the loveliest fairy tale towns and medieval castles in the country.
    • Short Guided tour of Aachen: Aachen is known for its history and culture, as well as its thermal springs and spa. The city was the preferred residence of Charlemagne, and was the place where 31 Holy Roman Emperors were crowned Kings of the Germans. It's also famous for Aachen Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was built in the 8th century and is considered one of the most important examples of Carolingian architecture.
    • Aachen Cathedral: Aachen Cathedral was the very first site to be granted UNESCO World Heritage status in Germany, and with good reason: built in around 790 to 800, the cathedral is of world importance in terms of the history of art and architecture, and is one of the great examples of church architecture. The final resting place of Charlemagne, it was also where German emperors were crowned for 600 years.
    • Aachen Thermal Baths (Optional): In Aachen, water and wellness have a long tradition. While in former times, the Romans relaxed in the therapeutic waters of the Aachen mineral springs, today, the Carolus Thermen thermal pools offer the perfect escape from everyday life. Perfect way to finish the day.
