James Island, Christmas Lights and the nativity scenes
Details
headed back to James island SC for the Christmas Lights, possibly the Abby for the creche display, eating at least one meal at a seafood restaurant and bike riding if I can find a decent trail. This is primitive camping and I have site 1. there is a flush restroom with showers that we can use. There is a central water spitget close to tent sites.
THIS IS A WALK IN TENT SITE OF AT LEAST 100 FEET PLUS OR MINUS DEPENDING ON PARKING. I recommend a wagon to help haul the gear to the campsite. Please bring firewood we will have a couple of fires.
we must be back at our campsites no later than 4pm when we go out as they start lining up for the Christmas lights and it is a long line. There is a nice little train we can take for fun, there is a lot of walking and if you would like to try your hand at climbing there is a rock climbing area but that is an extra charge. There are vendors and snack food around. Please bring your camping gear and food for all meals. Not sure which lunch we will be out and about.
I will know about the Abby October 3rd when they open the reservations. It is donation only but must have a reservation. the Abby is about an hour away from campground. Please bring a picnic lunch when we go to the Abby.
I have made reservations for all 9 of us at the Abby on Dec 5th at 10. there is no fee but donations are welcome and would be nice.
just a few updates.
weather unknown at this time but expect some rain, sunshine and clouds.🤣so bring layers.
please arrive at the campgrounds prior to 4 pm to check in. YOU MUST HAVE A PAPER COPY OF YOUR RESERVATION TO GET IN THE GATE WITHOUT PAYING.
check in at the store then proceed to the primitive area. parking is in a field and find the walk into the primitive area before parking. hopefully will not be too crowded and can get close to the entrance path. The path is dirt and is at least 100 ft to the camping area so bring wheels to help or pack very light.
we will have a couple of campfires if only in the morning.
Friday: we need to leave the campground no later than 0830 so that is in the cars with the engines running. hoping we can condense the vehicles by carpooling and head to the Abby. Please bring water, snacks, comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. we will be inside for the creche display. otherwise will be outdoors. will walk to the river to see the display there and sit an enjoy the beauty. There is a gift shop also that we can explore, look or buy. they also have hot chocolate, cookies and stuff for sale. sort of plan for lunch at the Abby or we can find a seafood restaurant for lunch (if anyone knows of a place) on the way back to the campground. Friday night lights, lights and hopefully a train ride for those who want to.
Saturday: beach combing. we will head to Jolly beach to see the Morris Island lighthouse and explore the beach. There is also a boat ride from Shem creek out to the area but is $65. and a 4 hour ride if they have openings. we can decide Thursday if anyone wants to do that and call and get reservations. Bowen's opens at 11 so we can head there Saturday for our seafood fix. then lights more lights
Sunday: campfire, breakfast and then break camp and head home.
