What we're about

This site is for people who enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking and other outdoor activities (skiing, kayaking, climbing, whitewater rafting, etc) with other people who enjoy the outdoors. Many of the events will be local hikes that will allow people new to the area and those who have lived her a short or long time to get together in the great outdoors and enjoy nature and new friendships. We are fortunate to live in an area that is comprised of The Upstate, Western North Carolina and The Northeast Georgia area. See you on the trail.

kayaking Saluda River in Lake Greenwood

Needs a location

as per email sent out there is car trouble in the family and my son has to work so Teresa and Jeff will be the leaders. this is their first time at this put in but I have sent the map to them and what I had planned. Stay safe.
Souls Harbor is the first of many river accesses on Lake Greenwood. Paddlers and boaters can use this lake access as a start and end point, traveling around Lake Greenwood and up the Saluda River. Boaters will see wide open flat water.
We will put in at Souls Harbor and head UP the Saluda river as far as we want to and then drift back with the current. Yes that means we will be paddling against the current on the way in but it is not bad.
Bring plenty of water, snacks, lunch, bug spray, sun tan lotion, sun hat, PFD, whistle and Kayak with paddles. We need to be off the river and loaded up no later than 2pm to make sure we miss the afternoon possible thunderstorms.

car camping Balsam Mountain in the Smokies

Needs a location

car camping: Balsam Mountain in the Smokies
bear country regulations are in place
Hiking: depends on what you want to do. I plan on hiking about 4 miles round trip on a very moderate hike that will be sloth in nature or a wandering hike. there are lots of options if anyone want to do a big or longer hike. Possibly another 2 miles or so either Friday or Sunday before leaving.
I have reserved site 21 and have room for one more tent/person on site.
Once that is full you must make your own reservations for a site. there are several still open.
Weather: this is the Smokies and higher elevation so it will be maybe a high of 70, so bring warm clothes, warm sleeping bag and always bring rain gear. One must have all of their own gear, and bring food as there is nothing around to go out and shop.
I am willing to carpool up to 4 people. we can meet at the walmart in TR at 0830 on Friday the 26th.
