CRYPTOCURRENCIES & NON FUNGIBLE TOKENS (NFTs)

Details

Topic for this session - CRYPTOCURRENCIES & NON FUNGIBLE TOKENS (NFTs) -
In this session Umesh Prabakar will give a short presentation of the topic(s). He does not claim to be an expert in cryptocurrency but does have a fraction of assorted coins (fractions of one coin can be bought). Some fundamental questions to ask are:

  1. what is it? 2. what problem(s) does it try to solve?
  2. what is open source & what is the role of open source in cryptocurrency? 4. how will future look like for crypto currency?
  3. how is this affecting us now? 6. how is non-financial corporations adopting this new technology? 7. how is financial corporations adopting this new technology? Each participant will then be given a chance to ask a question &/or give brief personal comments before proceeding to an open discussion.

In a message to me, Umesh mentioned the following: "Some examples of recent NFT (non-fungible token) sales are, - Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey auctioned off his first ever tweet for $2.9 million for charity. - Punk 6965 bought for 800 ETH ($1,540,063.96 USD) by 0x99b57c from 0x03911f. - An NFT featuring the popular piece of internet history that is the Nyan Cat meme sold for 300 ETH, or about $590,000, in February. - George Mason University economics professors Alex Tabarrok and Tyler Cowen conducted an experiment on their blog Marginal Revolution, creating an NFT of their first blog post on the site. The final bidding price was $2,300. I will also show how anyone can create an art and list it for sales. There are a many platforms for selling NFT, some charge huge up-front fee, some charge a percent of sale, some charge a one time fee and while others do it for free."

To avoid interruption in the flow of conversation, participants are asked to use the raised hand reaction icon in order to be recognized to speak.
Muting will be voluntary unless one (or more) becomes excessively interruptive or there is excessive background noise. Feedback comments are always appreciated as are suggestions for videos and future themes.
