Simpsonville Historic 5k and 11k Walks and Lunch

• Join us for our walks! Are you looking to improve your physical and mental well-being? Are you new to Greenville? Want to meet new people, make new friends, or simply looking for an easy, fun, social and healthy activity to get you, your children, your pet, and family members out of the house? Join us for our walks that you can do with the group, or on your own. Our noncompetitive walks are about 3.1 miles (5 km) or 6.2 miles (10 km) - It is not a race - but a fun, social activity - We hope to see you soon!
• Who We Are: Upstate Pathfinders Volkssport Club, a not-for-profit club providing 11 interesting walks, available daily, at your pace, in many different locations throughout Greenville, SC. We provide turn-by-turn instructions with historical notes. We are a part of the America's Walking Club (aka American Volkssport Association), a nonprofit organization that sanctions Volkssport events in the U.S. The America's Walking Club offers outdoor organized activities (walk, bike, swim) for everyone, regardless of age or physical condition. Seniors and minors (even in strollers), singles, couples, and families are all welcome. Leashed pets are acceptable. You don’t have to be an athlete to be a Volkssporter!
• Route: The 5 and 11K walks are thru the downtown area past new developments, historic buildings, a French Crepe cafe, the old cotton mill - now condos - and to the Holy Cross Church labrynith. From there the 5k returns to the start and 10K continues into the shaded Poinsettia development and returns to the start.
• Start Point: Start from the rear of Burdette Central at 104 E. Curtis in the outside seating area. Restroom available. The original Burdette Hardware building is one of only five on the National Register of Historic Places in Simpsonville.
• Registration: Register between 9:00 and 9:30. Walk with the group or on your own with a map and instructions. Group 5K walk starts very shortly after registration. The walk is free for noncredit participants and donations of about $3 are appreciated to offset insurance and Meetup fees. Cost is $4 for participants with books that record walk events. Minors are free. Please bring exact change.
• Lunch: Gather for lunch following at the new Willy Tacos, 129 N Main St., Simpsonville on the west side of SE Main. You will pass it on the walk route. No sign up until walk.
• Directions to the start are provided for convenience from N/S I-385:

1. Take the I-385 south from Greenville.
2. Take EXIT 29, Simpsonville/W. Georgia Ave.
3. From the south Right to Simpsonville; from the North turn Left to Simpsonville. Go about 1 mile.
4. Turn left onto W. Curtis St. Pass 2 signal lights crossing Main St. and SE Main onto E. Curtis St.
5. Turn right immediately at the end of the Burdette Central Bldg. on right (tan brick building).
6. Park in the large parking lot ahead or in the left open lot.

The event is sanctions by America's Walking Club and eligible for AVA/IVV credit.
