This game is FREE to play.
ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME - Adults 18+
Beginners - Don't be shy and come play. If you're new to poker, please watch some videos on YouTube about what hand beats what and the basics of play, so you're not completely in the dark when you show up. We should have 'cheat cards' for hand ranking for use during the game.
Experienced Players - Please be patient if we need to pause for a minute to explain something or move a little slower than what you're used to.
Tournament Style is how this No Limit Texas Hold'em game will be played, meaning each person will receive the same amount of chips at the beginning of the game and we play until, just like in the Highlander TV and movie series, "There can be only one!". Those that are bumped out are encouraged to stay and watch or get a side table going playing A**hole, Baseball, Blackjack, or whatever rotating dealer's choice is.
Casino Rules: Every attempt will be made to play by the same rules you might see at Harrah's, Seminole Casino, Vegas, or similar venues which should be by the Tournament Directors Association rules. I will be adding or modifying some House Rules along with that in advance. Will I get some things wrong? Absolutely! Please be kind and we'll work it out.
Dealing: If we have 10 people or less, I will be full-time dealer and a Dealer button will be passed around along with the Big Blind and Small Blind buttons. If we have 2+ tables, someone who is familiar with dealing will be designated full-time dealer at those tables. We've tried it the other way and this just works best.
Max table size will be 10 players. If we have more than that, we will split and add tables. As players get bumped, we will consolidate to one table when we get back down to 10 players total. An attempt will be made to prevent less than 6 players at a table, unless it's the final table. We will draw for table positions, unless family or friends really want to sit next to each other or at a separate table.
Blinds will go up at predetermined time intervals, usually every 20 minutes. There are no antes.
6:30P is when I will get there to set up and greet players, but the plan is to be sitting down ready to play at 7P. For players that have come to previous events, it’s not going to be much different, but there will be some tweaks.
Bring guests if you like, just stipulate that when you register for the event. Please try to RSVP for the event, so I have a good idea about who is coming. Having run various MeetUp groups over the past 15+ years, the unwritten theory amongst organizers seems to be, "However many say they are showing up, cut that number in half.". I’d like to change that trend for this group.
What does the Winner receive? A nice pat on the back with a warm 'Congratulations!' and a firm handshake with an invitation to come to our next event.
MY NUMBER ONE RULE: "If you’re not having fun, then you’re not doing it right!"
(That rule is trumped by the fact that there is no gambling at this event, but that is a given.)
Location: I want to confirm that Spare Time Greenville can host the event, so for now, I'm putting TBD. Can’t wait to see you there!
Your Tournament Director,
Terron
