Leona Park, York Trail Hike

One of my favorite little gems a hidden canyon where you will find a lovely shaded redwood forest along the creek, very small waterfalls : >. You will walk in from the Oakland suburbs and in an instance you will be in the middle of a forest. The park is not kept up and there are no trail signs. Relatively small incline approximately 600-foot climb to the crest of Skyline with views back over Oakland and the bay area. We also enjoy some art appreciation ......

Hike Route: Starting Point, Park at Leona Lodge, 4444 Mountain Blvd, Oakland or along the street. Yellow gate downhill from the lodge, We do a short out and back to the casting pools (Restroom) then walk in to the park and arrive at a wooden bridge and a sign for York Trail (only sign you will see), go along the path next to the creek, remember to stay along the creek until the end, Right at the sign marker after crossing a bridge, you will meander back and forth over the creek, eventually the path will go up to a fire road, Left on fire road, then Right uphill through swing gate at the top of the mountain, go straight on the path and you will come out on a panoramic view overlooking Oakland and the San Francisco Bay. (Break & Group photo) Then left with the view on your right, a path through the trees, pass the cell tower and you will get to the road (fence) stay to the Right very shortly, taking the single track trail Right downhill, junction stay to the Right, continue on trail at 3 way intersection go straight arrive at the (Murals) then back out to fire Road go Right and continue downward on the trail until reach the neighborhood, Right on the Road, Right on the Mountain Road and back to the starting point. Afterwards Ghosttown Brewery/Taproom on McArthur - excellent food outdoor for dogs

Directions:
From 80 South, 580 east, Take exit 26 toward CA-13/Warren Freeway, Turn right onto Calaveras Ave, Continue straight onto Mountain Blvd, Turn right onto Stauffer Pl, Continue onto Geranium Pl, parking along the street, near the Lodge and the park.

From 880 North, 238 east, then 580 west, continue onto hwy 13, (Oakland), Take exit 1 for Carson Street toward Redwood Road, Sharp right onto Mountain Blvd (signs for Leona Lodge) Turn left onto Stauffer Pl, Continue onto Geranium Pl, parking along the street, near the Lodge and the park.
