Filbert Steps & Chinatown New Year Festival Hike (Dogs Welcome)

Impactful urban hike with the intensity of Northbeach and Chinatown New Year Community Festival. We start at Levi Plaza and up Filbert Steps, which is a short vertical climb that can be done in 5-10min or less, depending on how hard you push yourself, but we will enjoy the walk up and views. It runs along the backyards of beautiful houses and gardens, and remember to listen for the parrots that reside there, then up to Coit Tower in Pioneer Park and its breathtaking 360 panoramic views of the city & bay. Then down Greenwich steps, enjoying North Beach neighborhood, Little Italy is a noisy bustling, then we will hit a few back alleys of the crowded Chinatown neighborhood, Allowing people to explore New Years Festival... You will head up and down the narrow alleys of Chinatown; and Ross Alley, Waverly Place, Spofford Alley, all with various Chinese associations and social clubs maybe a few hidden mahjong parlors, then we move along the old Barbary coast, then out along the Embarcadero.

Hike Route: Starting point, Levi Plaza in Front of the Large Block Waterfall (Group photo), Filbert & Sansome streets, We will up the Filbert Stairways, continue up the rear staircase to Pioneer Park and explore Coit Tower , then take Upper Greenwich street stairway down (located in front of Coit Tower) down Greenwich street, Left at Grant Street, Right on Filbert Street, (Saints Peter and Paul Church 1924) cross Washington Square, then continue on Union Street, Left Powel street, Left Jackson Street, Right Ross Alley, Right Washington Street, Left Spofford Alley, Right Clay Street, Left Ah Street, Left Sacramento Street, Left Waverly Place, Right on Washington Street, Right into and through Portsmouth Square, then cross over Kearny street (middle of block) Right Merchant Street, Right Montgomery street Left on Washington Street (Pass Transamerica Redwood Park), then continue on Merchant Street), Right Battery Street, Left Clay street, enter Ferry Park (Maritime Plaza park) listen for the Parrots of the Park, cross over Drumm Street, enter and go through Sue Berman Park, exit to the Left near the Children Park, cross over the Embarcadero out, and take a Left along the Embarcadero, then out and back on Pier 7, then continue Right on the Embarcadero, Left on Union Street, then Right into Levi Plaza Park and back to the starting point.

Directions: From 280 north exit 3rd street, go straight, and proceed onto the Embarcadero. Stay on the Embarcadero past the Ferry Building take a Left on Broadway, then a Right on Samsone Street. Look for parking near Samsone and Filbert Streets. Bart and SF Muni are options!
