What to Expect
- Beautiful pine and fir forests that feel worlds away from the Las Vegas desert.
- Plenty of switchbacks and stone steps, making for a steady uphill climb.
- Spectacular views of Kyle Canyon, the surrounding cliffs, and the Mojave Desert from the overlook.
- Seasonal wildflowers in spring and colorful aspens in the fall.
Trailhead
The hike begins at the Cathedral Rock/South Loop Trailhead in Kyle Canyon on Mt. Charleston. Follow the South Loop Trail toward Echo Overlook.

Good to Know
Even during summer, temperatures at Mt. Charleston are often 20β30Β°F cooler than Las Vegas, making this an excellent escape from the valley heat. Afternoon thunderstorms can develop quickly in summer, so an early morning start is recommended.
This is one of the best hikes near Las Vegas if youβre looking for a rewarding climb without committing to the full Charleston Peak trek.
